What if a any mainstream production cars currently use an electricity driven forced induction system ?

Some I think use an electrically assisted turbo to prevent lag but do any have a purely motor driven compressor ?

SQ7 was the first mainstream production car, with the diesel Bentaygo following on. It's not primary boost, just a "fill-in" while the main turbos come in.

Then there's the Chinese eBay hairdryers...

I don't know the answer to this but think it is much easier to drive a supercharger direct from the engine

Volvo were also looking at this for their 4cyclinder engine but not sure if anything came of it!

Mountune are also looking at an aftermarket system for fords!

Compressing air for a turbo takes an enormous amount of power: upwards 30hp for useful amounts of boost even on small engines depending on the engine capacity and desired boost level.
So using a chnuky motor is perhaps useful to decrease boost threshold dealy, but not viable for useful boost sustained. Not on 12v at least, it is more than an order of magnitude greater electrical deamnd than a starter motor - so the giveaway for a such a 'peaking' motor assist would be a 42v+ electrical system - simpy to deliver the power demand.

Belt to supercharger, or deriving that energy from exhaust heat = more elegant.

He dose! That's why I like these threads, they wind him up and he spills some information about 'stuff'. smile

People have combined superchargers and turbos to make pretty much lag free setups. Packaging nightmare but Norris Designs have it nailed for the Evo....
