Nice unexpected little windfall

Whilst clearing out one of my financial drawers in readiness for selling our house , I happened to come across a letter from 2012 which was asking me whether I'd ever been part of a certain companies pension fund , well I had been but was 99.99% sure I'd transferred any benefits to my own pension fund 30 odd years ago. (hence stuffing letter in drawer and forgetting about it)
Anyway in the off chance I was mistaken I chased up this letter by calling the freephone number and was surprised the call was answered , after a couple of calls an email and exchange of some info. I have received a letter informing me I have a fund sitting with 8k in it , not bad considering I only worked for the co. concerned for one year and the pension fund was non contributary at the time as it was doing so well.
To think I was just going to rip up the letter as well as I was almost certain I had transferred the pension
