Hi there

New poster to the forum but have been lurking for some time. I could really do with some help buying a used car.

I currently do around 6000 urban stop start miles a year, which is putting me off diesel - dfp isues etc. I have 2 young kids and my boot is regularly loaded with stuff so boot space is important to me. This is putting me in the 3 series / a4 / accord size bracket - I had been looking at estates, however picking up petrol engines are like hens teeth. On top of that i know that the e90 bmw engines and tfsi's are stinking with too many known problems.

I am really not precious about what i drive but i do want something that looks half decent!! Would anyone have any ideas at all? Budget around 10k. I am currently looking at volvo v60s but again getting the petrol engine is the problem. Maybe i am reading too much into the low mileage / diesel engine angle - anyone else drive a diesel but do bugger all miles?

Any help appreciated

A friend has a 2015 Merc E class diesel. Only does about ten miles a day, if that and drives slowish and never goes on motorways. Every now n then she get plumes of white exhaust on start up the DPF tries to clear itself.

Sounds like you need a petrol crossover, room for kids and large boot for stuff. Quashqai, or something along those lines will be in your budget. Maybe auto if yr stop start commute.

that is probably worse than my own situation!! The more i look into it the more i think going diesel but giving it a good run now and again is my only option. Not a big fan of the suvs as i just cant shake that 'soccer mom' image!!
