How do I get rid of ANTS?
Discussion
A couple of days ago it was a quick splat splat with my finger, now there are too many of the little
for that to be time effective.
Seriously, are there any sure fire ways of ridding my house of them.
The garden is crawling with them but that doesn't bother me so much, but in the house.....GET ORRF MOI LAAAAND!

Rather than killing them when you see them, you need to kill the Queen(?)....head ant.
We used a gell like stuff (sorry can'r remember name), they love it and take it back to the nest. You have to be patient as 100's of ants walk in and out of your house. The err... head ant is killed by this stuff brought back by the err....worker ants.
Hey presto...no more ants.
I do not profess to be an ant expert

I agree - Nippon is the stuff. A few drops of it on any smooth non-absorbant surface (or the special ant traps you can buy with it, if you prefer) where they can find it. They think it is the yummiest food they've ever found, take it back to the nest and feed it to everyone including the queen, then within a week or so the entire colony is wiped out. Job done.

Raid make a CRawling Insect Killer Foam which is very effective. The Nippon gel/drops stuff didn't do a thing in my house, the buggers just eat it and ran away. After a month of replacing the stuff every few days, I think they started putting out picnic invites to their mates.
The Raid stuff creates a barrier which kills them if they touch it. Great fun to squirt into the holes they crawl from. (Perhaps I should rephrase that, but maybe not!)
I used it a month ago and havent seen anything but dead bodies since.

Dig out your copy of ‘Ant Music’ and play it loud. When all the ants are bopping away to the music, BLAT. Back a shovel. Sorted
Don't tread on an ant he's done nothing to you
There might come a day
When he's treading on you
Don't tread on an ant you'll end up black and blue
You cut off his head
Legs come looking for you
Why didn’t we see the signs?

Yes that is what we are on, and touch wood, effective so far. The gel was useful outside as it didn't seem to wash away like the powder.
The bit that freaks me out, is when the flying ants appear. So far last two years we've spotted them as they start to emerge and can zap with aerosol. What happens if you are away for a few days doesn't bear thinking about.
Hoping the foam stuff does its job in this respect.
Ants will rule the world one day.
Just popped out and got stage 1 - Nippon.
I had a look at the foam but have visions of the DIY expandable wall hole filler stuff.
How does it work, I have noticed that they are coming in though the bottom of a door frame.
Oh another thing, I have a 10 month old who eats cat food, so is it tasty?

we have had loads of trouble with ants. mainly outside but in Feb/March of this year got a couple of nests in the house - yuk
shouldn't use ant powder in the house really, it being toxic to humans and all that, but is an ok bet for outside if you can't find the nest and do the boiling water thing.
For inside we bought "bate traps" (from supermarket made by a well known pest control company). these were little flying saucer type things with a pot of the the gel stuff that other posters have mentioned hidden in them. You put them in the path of the ants trail and they take the gel back to feed the queen and other ants. eventually the nest is killed but you do have to resist temptation to kill the ants on sight as they need a few days of taking the stuff back to the nest to do the job
