I have aprox 1 Acre of spare land, plus parking for a good 60 cars, which has planning permission granted for use as a sports & events venue (and could use the 28-day rule for anything else)

So I'm looking for ways to monetise it - it's a nice (currently dead) grass field with excellent access and roads, quite close to Donington Park.

I don't want to do anything like vehicle storage as it's in a prime spot for vandalism or theft, so I'm thinking of using it to host some sort of one-day events. It wouldn't be suitable for things like weddings or camping though as its right next to the noisy A42.

Ideas wanted!!!

Is that classed as a "sport"?

Few things off the top of my head.

Motorcross circuit?
Stick advertising boards up so you see them from the A road?
Grow fruit and veg?
Plant trees for a long term investment?
Build industrial units ? Bit of investment needed of course but might pay off lovely if you can get planning.
Car boot sales?

Now then... I like the idea of a car boot.

I'm not looking to throw ANY money at this, its just a side-line, beer money if you like.

A car boot would also help publicise the sports club.

Good thinking!!

I know you said no investment but you could set up a hot dog and tea stall for extra money - wouldn't cost that much if you can get the gear cheap enough,

One step at a time perhaps!

Or charge caterers a few quid more. I guess that happens too.

I know this is boring but don’t forget to get correct liability insurance if you’re doing anything with the public.

Well... as it happens, the "sports facility" actually has a kitchen, so no investment needed :-D

Re the next point, yes I know its boring too but absolutely necessary!!!!

Car parking for events at donington? £5 or £10 a car should return a few quid.

Had thought of that but its not quite close enough to be walkable.
Plus they have enough parking for literally thousands of cars on-site now.

Temporary sheep storage?
Horse holding facility?

Spot the ball but with a buried iPhone - sell tickets with co-ordinates on them - ticket buyers get to sweep their section of land with a metal detector to see if they've won. One person wins the phone, others help you find some buried treasure.

But you said you didn't want to throw money into this, so there's another INCREDIBLE idea lost to the sands of time.

Divide the area into small allotments and charge local gardeners a tenner a week rent.

Rent the land out to a local archery club.

Kids quad bike track.....a friend has done this, proved very popular, just stick a few hay bales and tyres here and there...

Do you actually need an idea of what to do with it?

I mean, could you not just advertise '1 acre land available to rent' and see what comes up?

Large inflatables. Slides and bouncy castles etc

Fill the field with them and the kids and parents will be queuing up

Just make sure they are tethered properly

And good insurance

You can charge a local ice cream man and burger can to hawk their wares

Beer tent for the dads, bugger all for the mums,

Happy days
