Interesting read but half the cars listed are a little optimistic for 2k. It’s like the journalist came across a clapped out Cat D S3 on eBay with a million miles on and thought I’ll add that to the list.
If your looking for a decent example with reasonable mileage you can probably only get about 4 cars off that 10 car list for 2k. Anything with a decent engine seems to be going up in value now because they are getting rare.

Emissions regs are killing all but the turbo 4pots, it’s a real shame.

Toyota Corolla T Sport

192 bhp
6 speed manual transmission
8200rpm

It's not a perfect car, and it's not a hot hatch, however seeing as the ST150 and a MK4 golf were included it would be unfair to not include the Corolla.

306 GTI-6 but not sure you'll get one for £2k these days without it being mega miles, needing a cambelt and being very rough.

An interesting article - I bought an early Leon Cupra in 2003 and loved it.

But in late 2014 I bought a 325ti Sport on 80K miles for £50 less than the budget quoted and it was so much better!

I sold it earlier this year on 103K miles for just under £1,500, and sometimes I still wonder why I did!
