What fuel pressure should the pumps be pumping at, also should this be a stable pressure.

6psi is what your carb wants to see.
I had a Carter go wrong and was up around 14psi so it went back.
The 2 I have on now seem to go adrift from time to time so I just switch to the other side. When I go back later it is working fine.

We have found the Carter pumps deliver 6 psi when cold but drop to 4 psi when the engine bay is hot. The car is fitted with a SPA fuel pressure guage. To remedy this, one of the Carter pumps was replaced by an adjustable Holley high-flow pump set to 6 psi. This is very reliable accross all engine bay temperatures although so noisy it can still be heard with the engine running!
