I am starting a new job in a couple of weeks that requires me to wear a tin flute from time to time.

I haven't worn a suit for at least five years and all of my suits are 10 years old.

The "style" 10 years ago, even for slim-fit which my suits are, was for a straight or only slightly tapered leg. These look positively boot-cut now.

Now I don't (and won't in the new job) pull six figs so can't just pull the trigger on some Savile Row or Jermyn Street bad-boys so the question is:

Could a high-street tailor or alterations place bring the trousers of an M&S Slim Fit Autograph suit in so that I don't feel like I should be wearing cuban heels with them?

Thanks

Have you tried one of those on? Whenever I'm buying trousers these days, in the right size, I feel like I'm wearing leggings!

Bring back the fashion from 10 years ago, I say...

Should be possible. It would simplify things if you have a favourite pair of trousers in your wardrobe you could take along to be measured for a pattern.

I have slim fit chinos from Tesco of all places that I think fit well.

I don't want skinny if-I-sit-down-I'll-rip-the-arse-out fit but something much more tapered at the ankle.

Good idea, I have one more modern suit, the trousers of which could be used this way, cheers!

High Street tailor... Not sure. But a decent alterations places should be able to as it sounds like a hemming job.

I have to get all of my trousers altered due to being powerfully built and undertall.

Have you got a decent independent menswear shop anywhere close?

I got a Digel suit in January from a local independent - alterations (jacket sleeves, trouser waist and length) were free and the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful.
