Shogun SWB as better option than LR D90?
Discussion
Hello, looking for some views on potential small size SUVs. I'm finding a need for SUV in my life - think very rough roads more than off-road and been tempted by a very nice 2011 LR Defender 90 but at £35k (it's quite special), but comparing that to a 2017 SWB Shogun Barbarian at £27k I can't help but think it wins hands-down on every point other than rarity. The Shogun has new low VED and is more practical but I can't get my head around the poor reviews (2/10, 1/5, etc.). The Mitsub sales guy told me LWB is now stopping production and the focus will be commercial and PHEV in future. I get the Shogun isn't perfect but are there are any views on it, ideally from those who have owned / considered both this and the D90.
Budget £30k ideally, sub 5,000 miles mixed use (countryside sport, bike transport, access to fishing spots, etc). The Isuzu D-Max isn't altogether ridiculous but length makes the occasional trip to town a bit of a challenge.
Thanks in advance.

My only opinion is that SWB jeep-thingies are hopelessly pointless if you also want to load any stuff in the back that you might expect to need to do one day. Been there done that, load space with seats in the back is worse than your average saloon and not a patch on any estate car. Style over substance, with the exception being if you want to take them to very very serious places in which case then an SWB is better. The ride on tall SWB vehicles is very often also front-rear pitchy which is irritating. Other than that I would take a Landcruiser over either, even if with more miles and age.
