My MP just came to see me

Chief,
Will you be watching the proceedings unfold with any sense of genuine optimism or ~ perhaps following the nod from said MP ~ are we looking at the tedious inevitability of a 70-80 commie goon maj?
No such inevitability at all. Mark my words, Blair is going to get a major shock in this election. Ignore the polls, with two days to go the result is utterly unpredictable and may come down to whatever happens in the next 48 hours.

It all comes down to turnout-how committed each sides supporters are.
But thinking realistically the best that can be hoped for is a small Labour majority.
Anne has instructed me to keep my chin up DeR but I'm not hopeful.
Nothing short of a coup d'etat is going to shift the current occupant of numero dieci and they tend to frown upon that sort of thing these days. My guess is a majority of 90.
I remember a mate of mine (who contested Worcester for the tories unsuccessfully in 2001) being asked in '92 what steps he would take if Labour got in. "Bloody great big ones" was his very apt reply. I'm starting to feel that would have been sound advice in '97 too and that somehow life would be better away from Albion and the despicable axis of evil that is dragging us into a cesspool from which there seems little hope of return.
Yours folornly
Paul

Fair comment re the Polls..
I just don't understand how the two main parties can go from being within 4% of each other on th 1st, to being 10% apart within the space of two days, when the only real "news" has been fairly Anti Lab. I think the Polls just add a layer of confusion to the whole thing... or is the average voter that fickle..?

Me the local Tory MP a couple of times. The Labour candidate is a bit of a fox though
That would be Miss Blagbrough?
I did'nt bother to look at her name, I mean, lets face it.. unless she drops by my house and gives me the best sex i've ever had, I'm not voting for her.

reminds me of the 92 election and all the candidates were allowed to give a speech and take questions at our 6th form college.
considering the college is Thames Ditton (nr Esher and Cobham) and has to be in one of THE safest Tory seats it was amusing to see the Labour candidate stand up in front of everyone.
i remember that he gave a speech and then asked the audience of 6th formers for questions:
First question:
Do you really think you stand a hopes chance in hell
of getting elected in this borough?
If that wasn't funny enough he answered with a straight face and said:
Yes.
The guy nearly brought the house down - it was the funniest thing we'd seen for a long time.
I'm not sure if its bravery or stupidity to stand in these safe seats and think you have a chance.

indeed. But if you're a media organisation with a political bent and you find that "your" side is doing well, do you publish? If you do then floating voters or those less committed might stay away on polling day on the grounds that there's no need. But if you publish figures suggesting the other side might get in...anonymous said:

Of course it is. My point is that she doesn't need to canvass at all - they weigh the Tory vote up here, not count it.
Actually, she's a great MP. I've had cause to write to her three times and each time she has responded quickly and helpfully and last time actually got the planning inspectorate to pull their finger out over an issue that was exercising us all in the village.

"Thats the spirit! If all else fails a complete and utter pigheaded unwillingness to stare facts in the face will see us through. Baaah!"
Does you sister make a noise when eating a boiled egg Mon Ami?

The best way to give BLiar a bloody nose is for us all to go up to Sedgefield and campaign for Reg Keys who is standing against him as an independent.
Keys is the father of a soldier who lost his life in Iraq and he stands a far better chance of toppling BLiar than any of his political opponents have.
In many ways the best result for a huge number (probably the majority) of Labour supporters would be for Labour to win but BLiar to lose his own seat. The humiliation would be delicious.
Wont happen I'm afraid but lets hope Reg can take a chunk out of the BLiar majority.

Remember the 1992 election? Three days before election day Labour had a 12 point lead in all the opinion polls. Polls are never trustworthy. SOme people deliberately lie to pollsters. Some pollsters only contact people of a certain socio-economic background, to deliberately distort the figures. Politicians commission deliberately bent polls to take the wind out of the sails of opposition supporters.
Strangely enough, both of my sisters prefer their eggs scrambled.
