Skoda Superb 2009 3.6 V6 Petrol
Discussion
Looking at a very tempting priced example of the superb to provide family transport with the 1.4 petrol when I stumbled upon the top of the range 3.6 with 4x4 and all the bells and whistles.
My question is has anyone on PH got any expertise of running a mark 2 superb and is the 3.6 with dsg worth it? I know the dsg isn’t cheap to fix but is it reliable?
I fancy it as abit of an unknown q car

Yes I've got one and I would recommend it, mine is the estate model on a 60 plate. Don't let the engine fool you into thinking it's a sports car, it's very much a luxury barge but one that can get quite a lick on when requested. The space and comfort are tremendous and it has all the toys you could need. The performance up to UK road speeds is very good, the AWD and DSG get you off the line and through the gears very briskly.
The DSG is the wet clutch 6-speed unit so should prove reliable though as with any auto transmission things could go expensively wrong, I'm just hoping they won't.

What’s the running costs fuel/servicing like? Be brutally honest please The DSG is the wet clutch 6-speed unit so should prove reliable though as with any auto transmission things could go expensively wrong, I'm just hoping they won't.

Tax is in the £500ish bracket, insurance is cheap (£300ish for me), Skoda fixed price dealer servicing is actually very reasonable (check their website for detailed pricing). I had a major service, DSG service, Haldex service and brake fluid change all done at the same time with the car collected and delivered and think the bill was around £700. I've not had to repair anything yet so I can't comment on parts prices.Fuel economy for me seems to be 28-32mpg depending on journey type. My 9 mile mixed commute gets me 29mpg, a long motorway trip will push it close to 35mpg. I would comment that the fuel tank is quite small for the engine/car combination, it's around £65 to fill from the refill warning at current prices which can get you over 300 but probably not 400 miles.

Holy crap....£540 Road tax a year!!
That's already criminal but chances are will be up to £1k a year before long and than your car is worthless come time to move it on...Road tax (or whatever the pedants term it these days) is going to kill off the large petrol engined barge long before rust of mechanical nasties do.

In theory they could bump it up to whatever they want, I guess.
Would I pay £1k a year road tax if it meant not having to move onto a Big-Brother-tracking Pay As You Drive scheme (because electric vehicles aren't bringing in the same level of fuel tax to pay all the other bills)? I think I would.
