Well, how about a rather tidy Volvo V50 D5 Sport 2.4 R-Design.
I bought this a couple of weeks ago from a local car dealer, mainly for the reason of carting the dogs around in. These dont have a bad spec, with full leather (rather nice), xenons, heated seats and fancy R-Design body kit.
It's a bit leggy with 138k on it, but it still feels nice and tight, and came with a mountain of invoices for servicing. What I thought was nice, was that all 4 tyres are matching, and every little stone chip it had was touched in with paint. The previous owner clearly cared for and loved this car.
The 5 pot diesel sounds much nicer than a common or garden 4 pot, and has a decent amount of go if you need to press on a bit.
It's a 10 year old car with a decent amount of miles on it, but everything works. I checked it with a code reader, and there are no stored codes.
This one is my first foray into Volvo ownership, and so far I'm really enjoying it. It does everything I need it to do, and it's all so effortless.

Having run a couple of Volvos (A V70, S60 D5 and an V40 T4) plus several Saabs to 150k miles plus, it should hopefully easily do 200k miles if you treat it well I.e. regular oil services. It looks a nice spec too...it's almost too good for the job! You didn't mention whether it had the obligatory National Trust sticker (my V40 did).

Sadly no National Trust sticker. But it does have a PH sticker now.I'm already getting a little precious with the dogs slobbering in the back.
Loved our V50 2.0 psa diesel. Just drove really well. Check the alloys arent damaged/ flat spotted as common, steering rack isnt leaking and the suspension at the rear is all there and it will serve you well. Lots of Ford bits means a tenner for a set of rear brake pads is always a bonus.
Worth checking for stored codes with VIDA... the stuff it unearths is mind blowing! Good cars even though the Volvo purists seem to struggle to get over the fact a lot of them are Ford based and don't get them started on the PSA 2.0 diesel. My missus has a Sport with said engine, pushing on to 200K and it's been brilliant. I echo shocks / bearings / general suspension wear, but nothing is dear to fix.
