Over Brittany today, about the size of an Islander. Propellors on the wing nacelles, T tail and pronounced canard/winglet right at the nose. Any ideas?

Wing-mounted engine nacelles, perhaps?

The Avanti came out around the same time as the Beech Starship. The idea was to get close to business jet speeds with a turboprop. As the Avanti demonstrates, it can be done, but is very noisy. I know immediately whenever one is going into Farnborough.

Sadly the Starship, which looks gorgeous, much more so, in my opinion, than the Avanti, suffered from the FAA insisting on so much excess strength in the composite structure that it lost its performance advantage, and the people who bought Beech were quite happy to keep making King Airs, so they bought back (most of) the Starships and cut them up.

Yep, nacelles are a housing separate from fuselage to house engine, fuel etc.

Thanks for the reply eharding, that was what we saw. Sounded fabulous and interesting technology in it...

They make an extremely distinctive sound - which from what I gather is due to the fact that the propellers are "pushers" rather than "pullers".
