Don’t see many if any posts about Sushi? Anyone else love their sushi?

This was the last sushi outing with the Mrs 2 weeks back, Wimbledon. Their sushi is not the traditional stuff a little mixed but does the job!

That looks fantastic, huge portion! I'm very much a sushi and sashimi fan, would love to go to Japan one day and try the real deal.

Love it. Spent 8 years living in Tokyo and still go back to Japan every year for a few days, mainly for the grub.

If you haven't already, next time ask if they do freshly grated wasabi rather than the stuff from a tube or whatever. Makes a nice difference.

Sushi would be epic if it was not for that horribly sticky rice and bits of green cabbage / seaweed that is not seaweed and all that vinegar. Also the stuff i get at Tesco/Lidl/ Pets at home is rather cheap and so cannot be tiptop as well I guess. You need to live in Japan and see the food die horribly whilst screaming a call to Posiedon before they get chopped up and boiled alive,

for it to taste good.

Probably.

I think you might have missed the point tongue out

Sushi I'm happy with from a restaurant but sashimi is a different kettle of fish (geddit!). Only time I've had proper sashimi is in California which was tuna based so not a big leap and raw mackerel I caught and cut myself literally within a minute of landing it. Both were good but I'd love to try the real thing. Just nowhere locally I would trust (I live within walking distance of one of the UK's busiest fish markets!)

Love sushi but I always think of it more as a snack or a quick lunch as opposed to a meal.

Amazing for you! I've only been once - this May - and absolutely fell in love with the country (the bits I saw!), including the food. Not sure I could handle the heat and humidity over summer mind you - how did you find it?

Sushi chef in action:

Nigiri:

Tuna sashimi with different amounts of fat. Think I ate something else that was on the plate...

Wagyu sushi - I started picking it up before I was instructed to take a photo :-).

Love the stuff, haven't had the chance yet of tasting it in Japan but to date some of the best I've had has been in Bergen, Norway with fish straight off the boats.

When I lived in Bermuda, we used to get epic sushi, as most of the fish was caught locally.

The best restaurant was Pearl on Front Street,

My all time favourite was

THE BLACK PEARL
Salmon, Tuna, Rockfish, Barbecue Eel, Scallions & Teriyaki

They also (used) to do an amazing Rockfish Uzuzukuri

Yes, lovely stuff when done right.

In case you haven't ever watched it, check out the film "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" on Netflix for more Sushi lovelyness.

No pictures sadly, but Moshimo in Brighton is a fantastic restaurant for those that happen to be in the area and fancy a pain free introduction to sushi.

The plastic covered filth marketed as the the same in Tesco et al is no comparison smile

If you are in Central London, try this place out https://www.sushiology.co.uk/
I go here at least once a year, usually before or after Christmas.

If you like Wasbi or Itsu try https://delica.yoshino.net/ everything made in-house.

These were taken/eaten at Royal Park and Royal Plaza Hotel in Hong Kong, all you can eat international buffet, the sashimi wasn't pre cut, you queue up and tell them want you want lick.

That place is amazing. They supply their fish to places like Nobu from what I know. They have a few places over London.

Anyone here tried The Araki? It’s a 3 Michelin star sushi restaurant in Central London. Moved from Japan. I want to give it a go but £300 per person not including tip and drinks is a bit too much I reckon? You’re probably looking at close to £1000 for 2 people.

We have thought about going there but as you say its very expensive.

We sent to Hashi in Raynes Park last week lovely food as usual. We choose sashimi every time over sushi, so we can eat more lol and not fill up with rice smile
