£2k Wagon to take to Europe
Discussion
Heading to Europe in 2 weeks time and our planned car has died its death.
Need a comfy touring wagon to replace it. Anything goes, preferably easier to sell in a couple of months.
Has to be an estate and something interesting, what would you buy?
Cheers

I’d buy RAC Euro breakdown cover!
The first big trip we took to Europe was in a car bought for 2k a few weeks before. PAS pump went in the South of France, RAC sorted out a garage, got us a hire car to get home and translated everything over the phone. Well worth the money.
On the car front, depending how big it needs to be, there’s an Impreza WRX, 330i, 95 Aero or XC70 within budget on eBay.

Not interesting I bet a 1 owner Honda Accord Tourer, petrol as well, will be get you there and back.
They are huge in the back as well.

Haha, what car was that? Breakdown cover will definitely be on the list. The first big trip we took to Europe was in a car bought for 2k a few weeks before. Yes, I was leaning to a V70 T5 for ultimate waft with a nice 5 pot. I am wary of the head gasket issues with them, it seems to be quite common!
That Saab looks lovely, but too much money unfortunately for me, it really has to be below £2K, thanks anyway for the suggestion though.
Any other suggestions?
These are pretty bomb proof, 130 tdi is the sweet spot but petrols are ok.

Having owned Saabs I'd avoid one for such a trip, sure it has nice seats and is safe but they arent exciting to drive and should it require attention, you might struggle to find someone who can sort it
Personally id look no further than Mondeo or Accord Petrol, cheap reliable and the Mondeos especially are a decent steer
EDIT TO ADD: Id also be going for LPG if you could something suitable, LPG is relaible and its handy having the second tank, plus its everywhere mainland europe, just make sure you have the european adapter
