Pearlescent paint

So how does it work?

Anyone know how they apply the paint (s)?

I'm assuming its a multi layer paint application with either a special finish laquer rather than metal/ mica chips.

Tried searching the archives but no previous answer found.

Mine is pearlesant purple I dont know how it works but it has got a bright green undercoat.

There are up to about 15 layers of paint, the base layer is silver, then depending on the colour layers of paint, some with sparkle/flecks are added, then the top clear coat is added.

Not sure what you mean? thats the answer I got when I asked about touching up Miss D.

If you cant give a constructive answer as to why I am quoting incorrect info then dont say anything.

I think this would a candy colour with a metal flake

I don't think so.
The Halcyon Midas pearlescent has undertones of green & gold through the yellow depending on the angle viewed.

Thats what I getting at, how do they achieve that effect?

That's more than just pearlescent I think? My FTO was pearlescent black. Basically the colour was black, but in the sunlight you could see flecks of green and purple in there. Kinda like metallic but with different coloured "bits".

I think the multi-coloured ones are more complicated than plain old "pearlescent".

it's all that mica......well actually epoxy coated mylar apparently....

I was told that the difference between pearlescent and metallic was the amount of mica added. Its Every metallic" metallic!

A pearlescent paint is a pigmentated pearl and a 2 coat system. (Each coat being defined as when you have to wash your gun out).
The paint is produced by the metallic flake being replaced by pearls (which look like contact lens).
Basically over a primer, the first coat is pearlescent and 2nd is lacquer.
The application is the same like metallic. The main difference between metallic and pearlescent is the ingredients that go into the paint.
