I recently responded to an Advert in the Aberdeen freecycle group. someone was offering a free TV.

He is now telling me he is in fact in London but will deliver the TV if i pay a 'shop fee' directly to him (I assume he means Shipping fee) .

I have reported the advert to Freecycle and asked him what a shop fee is.

Not sure now whether to string him along a bit smile

Any idea's?

He is telling me he has just moved from Aberdeen to London this week and if I pay the £30 he will ship it to me.
As it was a free TV I didn't ask for any details apart from checking it was a flat screen so i have now asked for the make and model and a photo of it working.

If he can provide that stuff i will think of some more requests.

I think at the very least I need to know the size and location of the mounting holes in the back, and how much the TV weighs and how many decibels it puts out at full volume.

Does it have a remote?

Does the remote have batteries?

How old are the batteries?

How often, roughly, do they need replacing?

“How funny, I also happen to be in London at the moment and could collect it, where are you” etc etc. When he tells you somewhere, photoshop a pic of you in front of that place (or use a stock pic of someone) and send it to him.

See Joe Lycett apartment scam on YouTube, do exactly that smile

The picture of the TV could be just an old one he's found on the internet, ask him to photo the tv working next to the current days newspaper so you know it's a recent photo and not fake. The day after he sends the email say the email was corrupt so can you do a new photo with a fresh newspaper, rinse and repeat, see how much you can get him to waste on newspapers.

He has sent some pics , with the following message:

Scammer said:
Ok I will send you pictures and also you will paying the £30 first so that I will registered the TV .
I have run a couple through a reverse image look up and cant find them elsewhere.

Is it just me, or does this TV look bigger than 32"? And do we think these pics are taken in the US, the thermostat control? and light switch look a bit American to me.

Get someone else on it. Ask if he can arrange shipping to London, Stockholm, Paris, New York and so on... willing to pay costs from Jockland etc.

Then lots of pic requests and general oddball buggering around as above from both (preferably more) buyers. Would volunteer, but am away and out of comms from tomorrow.

No one else will be seeing his advert as it (and his freecycle account) have been deleted by the admins already. I don't know if they will have messaged him to let him know they are on to him or not.

English is obviously not the guys first language, the name he is using is Mendez Collin which probably gives a clue to his nationality but i assume it is not his actual name. God knows where in the world he actually is!

Angus McDonald would suit better.

Ask him to throw in a can of iru bru and a battered mars bar as a test.
