Biggest numpty of all:

Jools Townsend, communications manager at Brake, stated (on You And Yours) that child (pedestrian) deaths have increased.

Interestingly, she also stated that speed cameras are “proven to reduce casualties”.

In one breath she says "proven to reduce casualties" und in the next more children are dying in traffic accidents. Is hithest in Europe1

UK holds record for....

highest number of child deaths

highest number teenage prganancies#

highest number children running off to meet some chat room person.

highest number uninsured drivers (und silliest fines)

highest number chavs -

:scratcchin: What does this suggest....Jools?

PPerhaps instead of dumbing down general education - we need to up the stakes.

Despite Bliar's claims to contrary - we do not have kids developing to Grade A status in every subject - human beings to not evolve that quickly to near genius levels for all in one generation - und I do not see any evidence to support this.

Ist all dumbed down - und we are reaping what we sow when these kids have no road sense or even common sense - and they still cannot read or do sums

Und then there was person who said scams every couple mile on M6 - to prevent her being tailgated.

Er.... where exactly on M6? Ist only toll bit where you can "make progress" of rip-off all way round sort.

But agree towman - there were some sparklers on there.

The only casualties that speed cameras have reduced are KSI figures.

KSI figures are a made up statistic, that like all others, are massaged by the government.

Just take a look at these Scamerati graphs from Northumberland:

www.abd.org.uk/local/northumbria.htm

Hmmmmm, Serious injuries drop, while slight injuries climb. Maybe serious injuries are being disguised as slight injuries

Or just as likely there are a high number of injury types that are very borderline on the rules about what counts as serious vs slight injuries.

Or even that slight injuries are on the increase only for the purposes of insurance claims.

It is even possible that the guidelines for which category a particular injury should appear in have changed, possibly several times, over the years.

A fatality is reasonably certain - although the 30 day rule may still lead to some grey areas. However there are those who argue that these grey areas may mean that all stats are understated by 100% (which is part of the argument that produced the "33% of accidents attributed to speeding" lie, iirc).

The only conclusion one can arrive at is that the data are crap and cannot be relied upon to derive any sort of analysis at all. In which case nobody can prove anything and we should either implement a useful system (and await the results ... ) or decide such a thing is too expensive and admit that the rules and application of the rules are there for social control and money raising activities and no other reason.

What I can't get my head round is that there are so many gullible who swallow the whole speed kills message so easily.

One of them said "if everyone obeyed the limit we would be much safer" or words to that effect.

Was he the same one that said "I'm sick of being held up by speeding irresponsible motorists"

How fast are you going then?
