Out of interest what would the 0-60 be on a remapped 320d with 184ps? It is a F30, auto and, 2012.

Looking to improve drivability.

I know it won’t be a race machine but hope to make it a tiny bit smoother and a few extra mpg would be nice. On a run to Portsmouth I get around 68mph. Wouldn’t mind making that more.

I reckon it’ll make at least 70mph with a map. I find the London A to Z on the passenger seat gives the biggest gains.

I tried a piggyback tuning box from a well respected company that's been in business for a very long time, for a while in my 420d. Performance gains were pretty much imperceptible - I think I was probably kidding myself that I could feel the difference - for the driving I do (mostly motorway) and had little impact on mpg.

So, if it's going to cost you c. £300 for a proper tuning job, is that really worth it to try to save a couple of mpg (the payback would be over 100,000's miles!). See what filling the tank with Shell V-Power diesel does first.

if you want to go quickly 0-60 then this is not the car and you are wasting your cash on a remap

0-60 will probably be near enough what it is now. From my experience with remaps you should find the power delivery to be smoother, and you might see very minor improvement to MPG.

I had an E92 320d 177ps ... I had it remapped and it made it a ot quicker off the mark. The auto box didn't like it though (Superchips map) . so it went back to std. The map was very smooth and a huge amount more poke but not for me as the car auto box hated it and banged about changing gears which was rather worrying.

Mine went to 215bhp FWIW.

I changed to a 330d LCI after that and wished I had gone down that route from the beginning.

A friend has recently bought a cheap 2006 E61 520D auto. Probably a totally different engine? The previous owner had had it remapped, and thrashed it mercilessly - the tyres were completely shredded from drifting. It eventually died with a few electrical problems, so we've spent a couple of weeks sorting it out.

The remap has certainly made the car quick off the line and for low speed overtakes. It feels quicker than my E61 525D did, and as quick as his E39 3 litre petrol. Impressive performance for a 2 litre diesel in a big car.
It struggles to better 35mpg though.
