I read one, if I can remember the name of it I'll come back and post it. Along the lines of "Hotel Babylon" and the others in that series (ETA though it turns out there are far more than I was aware of. )

Not really a confessional but an interesting tale.
A client of mine deals with a guys who provides high end catering services for mega yachts all over the world.
“My yacht is in Monaco today but sailing to Kefalonia next week. Decided to throw a party for 20 when we arrive. I’d like X brand of Salmon from Scotland, X brand of king prawns from Asia and X brand of wines from France. And I need a chef” That type of stuff. He then sources and delivers direct to the yacht.
What surprised me most is how often his mega yacht customers change their minds. Says he very regularly gets a call like “thanks for providing everything as requested, but we decided to fly to Italy to eat instead”. £15k for food that went straight in the bin. Says it happens all the time.

There was a good analogy about relative excesses on the millionaire thread. For the mega yacht owners, putting 15k's worth of food into the bin is like you or pouring a glass of milk down the sink, it just doesn't matter to them. I also had some thoughts about the carbon footprint associated with flying in a load of rare foods at short notice, but assuming the yacht burns £millions of diesel a year, it all pales into insignificance again!A client of mine deals with a guys who provides high end catering services for mega yachts all over the world.

I happened to see a fly on the wall programme on one of the cable channels about crews on these yachts that were being chartered. Unhelpfully, I cannot for the life of me remember which channel, or what it was called.
Below deck? I used to work with the Chef, Ben. It was his brainchild. His old man was/is quite influential in the arts and I believe pretty much got the show commissioned for him.I would take everything you see on there with a huge heap of salt.

I did a quick search, the book I read was "Superyacht X-Rated" by Marc Wilder. Some copies on Amazon for a penny.
Reviews are pretty damning. Sounds like it is full of clichés and recycled mate-of-a-mate tales. I doubt it is representative of the industry as I know it.Possibly not - I don't remember how good it was, and I saw the reviews when I was looking for the title, and copies available for 1p might say something too. I recall Air Babylon and the private island one as being quite good, but this one doesn't really stick in my mind. Presumably a lot of the stories in most of this kind of book are highly dramatised and made so that no-one is identifiable.
