Hi Guys

First post on here, selling my RS4 & looking for a used C4S, been offered one from main agent at around 62K for a 1 year old car with every possible extra, including the all important SPORTS EXHAUST. An independent dealer has an unregistered imported car with PCM & will fit Sports exhaust for around 64K. Which one will hold it's value better when I come to sell an OPC car with lots of optional extras or the brand new imported one???
Or do i just forget about the C4S & locate an early 996 TT.
Your comments would be most appreciated..

A newer car (assuming it's UK spec) would always hold its value more than an older car.

I went through a similar thought process before buying my turbo. I went for the turbo and haven't looked back; they are truly a formidable beast with massive tuning capacity.

The C4s has the same engine as the other Carreras (2 & 4s) but it weights more so is a tad slower.

End of the day it's only a choice you can make.

Good luck

I don't think there will be a lot in it on the C4S's. If minimising depreciation is your goal, then the Turbo is probably a much better bet IMHO. Plus they are of course a lot faster :-)

RSJ have a couple of nicely spec'ed Turbo's at the mo, for mid 50's.

I have to say, as much as i love the C4s, (i owned one), the turbo is looking such a bargain at the moment, you'd be mad not to consider one.

Especially as you will be used to the power delivery of the Audi, the turbo will be very similar in that dept.

Get a good one, at good price, and it could be pretty cheap motoring IMHO.

Providing the 2 cars are the same price. If not then an "entry level" £50k C4s will lose less money than a £60/65k newer one. (In a few years they could both be selling for the same price).

I reckon a 996tt for 60k will depreciate less than a 60k C4S, so where's the big decision?

You presumably need to factor in the fact that the turbo will be older, and being a more complex car, will cost more to maintain, especially if the warranty has lapsed.

Wherever you buy your TT from, take it to an OPC and buy the extended warranty - @£ 870 well worth it. I’ve had more than my moneys worth back. And yes, Porsche will sell you it, even if you didn’t buy from a OPC.

I might be wrong but you wont have to worry about the RMS in a turbo though... can anyone confirm?

Don't know about that, ask your local OPC. With the extended warranty, if you buy it before the Porsche warranty runs out, then no inspection is required. However, if you come in off the street with a car out of warranty, then you will need an inspection before taking out the cover.

That's correct as far as I know. It's because the TT/GT2/GT3 have a different engine from the other 911s. The one that is derived from the GT1 of Le Mans fame of '98. – Different bottom end.
Interestingly, the new current Porsche warranty will cover RMS and most other oil seal problems, where as the previous years, Porsche out sourced the warranty to a third party, who wouldn't cove such repairs. Good news then

I researched this warranty thing a bit of late. You really want to purchase a car still in warranty. Whilst you can get it on a car that has lapsed, you have to pay a load for the inspection and you have to spend a fortune getting it back up to the point where they are willing to cover it. Given the warranty doesn't command much 2nd hand (it seems), get one which already has it imho!

I agree totally Dan. Secondhand with warranty, does have much weight on the selling side, but totally worth having if you own the car. One engine out job for an oil seal, would cost over £1100 on a turbo.
