E61 535d or b7 RS4 Avant
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I would like some opinions please from anyone who has owned either or both of the above cars.
I currently own a e61 535d m sport touring and have done for the last year. It’s a brilliant car, remapped to 370 odd bhp and 550ftlbs of torque. Has all the toys but is a little boring.
I have always fancied a B7 RS4 Avant.
I test drove a couple but they didn’t impress me mainly because of the dealers and tatty cars I think.
Speed wise there didn’t feel like there was much difference between my bmw and the Audi but I’m not bothered about that mainly due to the v8 noise!
I’m concerned the B7 is starting to get a bit dated now compared to the bmw but I know it will be a car that puts a smile on your face.
I just wondered if anyone had owned either car and could compare them?
I hardly ever sit in traffic and do a 40mile round journey to work everyday.
I think the RS4 will hold its value better than the bmw as well which is a plus.
I welcome your opinions/advice.
Many thanks
Dean

I had an RS4 you have to work it to get the best out of (I bought a supercharged one) in standard form, the RS4 also suffers with the heads coking up this has a big effect on the performance also the Audi lump has it's torque high up the rev range which is why they won't feel as fast.
Depending on your budget also should take a look at the C63 Estate as that has the low down torque & the top end performance it sounds like you're looking (or you could search out one that's had the supercharger conversion) & in my bias opinion it has probably one of the top 3 V8's ever made.

Hi thanks for the reply.
Yes I agree about the torque the bmw pulls from any revs so knew I would have to rev the v8 to get it to go. I previously had an e46 m3 which has to be driven hard to get the most from it.
How reliable was your rs4?
A c63 amg is within my budget and I have considered one I just prefer the look of the rs4 and do like the idea of 4 wheel drive.
I’m sure if I drove a c63 I would probably want one!
Thanks for your input I appreciate it 👍

Mine was was okay I had to have the decoke done luckily the chain had already been done, as that's an engine out job & you might as well get the clutch done as well so not a cheap job (I'd get a specialist to check the chain before buying one) it's not common for them to stretch but it does happen.Yes I agree about the torque the bmw pulls from any revs so knew I would have to rev the v8 to get it to go.
