Hartge BMW 3 Series with an M5 V10 - 1 of 10 worldwide
Discussion
It's an interesting "sleeper", but for less money you could get an F80 M3 with a competition pack, that will pretty much out perform this car, give far better gas mileage, be cheaper to service, be cheaper to insure (as it's bog-standard and not modified), be far easier to live with on a daily basis (the V10 is renowned for lacking in low end torque, and the gearbox can be quite "clunky" at low speeds), and will be far less likely to spin up its main bearings (something which sadly, the V10 can be prone to doing).
One thing the twin turbo M3 can't do though, is come anywhere close to matching the "F1" howl of the V10 at speed (On the flip side, the M3 won't sound like a rattly old diesel when cold!)

Nothing will beat a screaming V10 no matter how good a farting M3/4 is! One thing the twin turbo M3 can't do though, is come anywhere close to matching the "F1" howl of the V10 at speed (On the flip side, the M3 won't sound like a rattly old diesel when cold!)

M5 isn't the best at launches, but the M3 is simply no 200mph car. Video below shows what I mean - the M3's torque allows for it to get ahead but the M5's overall top end of 507hp vs 420hp, accessed in the higher gears due to 500hp being achieved around 7500rpm, is what makes the M5 pull ahead. The Hartge M3 V10 would easily outperform the F80 in most scenarios, the S85 in a body which is much lighter would make for something that is really fast.
Hartge clearly cared about performance in this 3 series - there isn't electrical seats or an iDrive system, clearly they wanted a lighter car.

chalk and cheese my good man. No one who is looking at Hartge models will be that bothered by a run of the mill M4.oh an lack of torque from the V10, jeez this place is odd at times.
Having had an E61 M5 for two years and 20k miles the last thing I noticed was the lack of torque. Yes, I had to rev the engine a bit higher
but that’s the whole point of a high revving large-ish capacity V10.
This Hartge would be a beast to drive - AC Schnitzer and Hartge are known to develop their cars properly.

Completely irrelevant to this thread, but if we are talking engine noise...
