Golf R - Akrapovic exhaust or not?
Discussion
Hi all, I’m looking to lease a golf R. I priced one up for £350 a month with £4000 initial rental for a 2 year lease on 8k miles a year with the following extras:
White silver metallic paint
Panoramic Roof
Black Pretoria Alloys
Dynaudio sound pack
Gloss black mirrors
90% rear tints.
I am also thinking about adding the akrapovic exhaust but seen as it’s a £3000 optional extra, it will take the monthly price to £423 with £5000 initial rental. Is it worth it, does the akrapovic exhaust actually make that much of a difference?

If you are leasing a car add zero spec.White silver metallic paint

If you are adding spec, then buy it.
That's already a very expensive lease before you add the Akrapovic. Have you remembered to add the VAT?

Only you know what budget you have to play with so I'll leave the finances. There's a great video on youtube which gives a good idea of what to expect with the akrapovic exhaust.White silver metallic paint

If you buy it with added spec, you still lose the lot when you trade it in 2 years later. Might be a better proposition if you were going to keep the car 5+ years. If you are adding spec, then buy it.
Only he can decide whether the sound is worth £125/month. It wouldn't be for me, that's for sure.
You'll probably get the same advice as you were given in the other thread you started: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
You're doing 'leasing' wrong, you'll pay through the nose for something you're never going to own. The trick with leasing is to put as few extras on the car as possible - my R has just metallic paint as an option. Leasing is a great option in SOME instances but you have to know how the system works.
I would strongly recommend that you need to take a moment and understand exactly what you're getting yourself into and how different finance methods work to your advantage or detriment.
P.S. You'd have to be mental to put the Akro exhaust on a lease Golf.

Best part of £2k to rent an exhaust for two years. The world has gone mad.
Says the man with 3 cars
Anyway it's £2736 additional over the two years.
If the OP wants it and can afford it, why not?
Drove a Golf R with a Akrapovic exhaust the other day. I wasn't all that impressed hearing in the metal, I'm even less impressed at seeing the price tag. 3k!?
For a 3k exhaust I'd expect it to make a car sound like rolling thunder. Instead it makes a crap sounding car sound ever so very slightly less crap.

If you have the money why not lease the Golf R minus the exhaust then get the Akrapovic or exhaust for £2500 have it fitted and then when you return the car swap the exhausts back and sell the aftermarket exhaust for a good chunk of your money back.
Or get the standard car an fit a Miltek for a fraction of the price or for even cheaper speak to Trackslag about a resonator delete which again allows the car to be returned to standard at the end of the lease.

I don't think that recommending modifying a lease car is sensible advice. It's not his to play about with and should something happen to it he could add breach of contract to the list of problems. Leases specifically exclude modifications, the car is not yours to mod.Or get the standard car an fit a Miltek for a fraction of the price or for even cheaper speak to Trackslag about a resonator delete which again allows the car to be returned to standard at the end of the lease.

That is indeed sound advice and you're absolutely right I shouldn't really encourage such behaviour but we all know it takes place.Hell , i've seen lease cars fitted with air ride and all sorts and returned to standard a week before hand back. Only a very trained eye would be able to tell- the issue of course is should anything happen to the vehicle BEFORE it is returned. Bonkers but there ya go, there always people prepared to bend the rules.

Mine doesn't, my lease specifically states you need to ask for permission before carrying out any modifications and that any mods need to be reversible. Blaster72 said:
This isn't a finance thread but feel free to add your 2p worth anyway
Clearly is, should the OP finance a £3000 exhaust over 2 years on a lease car.
To be frank, I wasn't at all surprised to see a topic the other day on buying tyres on 2 or 3 year finance
There appears to be very few things left in the world that you can't have for £X per month. Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
