Nice comparison cmoose always a good read.

Not surprised by the outcome.

Would have been interesting to throw a 996 turbo into the mix to add in the naturally aspirated v blown element.

Fascinating read, once again. Your stories really convey what a car's strengths and weaknesses are, very clearly.

A great collection building up!

Interesting write up - many thanks. I am in a minority I know, but I'm not a big fan of some elements of the looks of the "S". Especially the front - the wide grills.....

Enjoyable read as usual. I'd have offered you my 996.2 C4 for comparison but I'm not convinced it drives as it should and would make a good car for comparison.

This review also has me wondering what a 2wd 'Carrera 2S' with the wider body might have been like. Indeed a wide arch GT3 RS. Just extra weight? Or would it add something worthwhile?

Just weight (C2S wise at least) as the narrow body is a little quicker, lighter and is perhaps a bit pointier (eye of the beholder and all that). Now a C4S with the power kit would make some sense! On a C2 you can add ohlins or PSS10s to solve the handling.

Thanks for the review Jeremy - it was a fun morning. Good to see such nice 996's together.

I assume you mean 997 C2S? There isn't a 996 C2S.

Sounds like you want a 996 Anniversary. Turbo front, sports suspension and power kit.

Great read, I'm looking at getting a 996 next year once some things have happened. I really want a C4S but then an early C2 seems like it would be the sensible choice.. Decisions, decisions..

Very nice article, thanks

I wonder if the diff over the front axle on the 4S contributes to the remarks you make about chassis neutrality

I certainly found it a very easy car to drive fast. In 996 guise I believe it also had the Turbo brakes which also add to this in the hands of an enthusiastic but somewhat unskilled driver such as myself
