996 turbo 2002, hesitating and jerky comes up with CHECK Engine, was running fine before being parked up for 8 months.

No other faults recorded, cleared fault a number of times.

Have had various suggestions, decided to come here for help.

I would suggest coil packs as well , particularly if having been out in the rain today.

I'd tend to agree with advice above, but would also say:

My mower is a total to start after the winter lay up, and that's generally only 4 to 5 months. 8 months is not a 'good' amount of time for an engine never to have turned over. Moreover, turbos in particular, have lots and lots of complicated and expensive 'extra' bits that are prone to seizing, like actuators and so on.

Thanks for all the comments.
Laid up due to illness... any recommendations for a good independent specialist in the N.E of England??

Coil packs and spark plugs are dead easy on these, so I would put it into any local garage you trust TBH - probably just needs a new set of spark plugs first!

as previously said - coil packs, HT leads & plugs
i'd also check the cam, crank & O2 sensors too.

All 3 cylinders on the same bank would indicate a cam soleniod fault to me, you would have to have the data analysed to see whats going on. Does it seem to be running on 3 (really rough!) Or does it run just a little rough?

As above, plugs are easy. Once you have the bumper and intercoolers out of the way...

Difficult to say, it varied and I had to drive it for over a 100 miles on the A1 in traffic jams, and had to use the clutch a lot, but never stalled.

I don't know of any. FWIW though, my 996 turbo and my current 997 are serviced primarily by Sports & Classic in Cheshire. They have a wealth of knowledge in looking after the Mezger-engined 996/7 models. May be someone closer to you, but if not, they can certainly tackle anything on these cars.

Now in workshop:
Replaced plugs and coils
Replaced both cam on bank1
No change!!
Unplugged Maf
Runs fine!!
Fit new Maf
Back to misfire on bank1!!
Check for air leaks, fuel pressure, seems ok
Where to next, fuel injectors, cats ??

Car has done 2000 miles over 2 years, since tune.
Prep work before tune:
Engine out to drill out manifold seized studs and replaced both turbos and other work.
Parts used for tune: gt2 intercoolers, intake plenum, diverted valves and F pipe, free flowing panel filter and tune carried out.
Any suggestions??
