I have a Tuscan on order, but really fancy a Tamora (They seem to work far more regularly than a Tuscan!)

I assume that just about evrybody on here bought theirs new from a dealer, so I was wondering what sort of deals you got and whether the list price is at all "flexible"?

hi. nope - no flexibility at all, although they did throw in a free optimate trickle charger. wow....

Yep, I think you're right, all the Tamoras on here were new except for one which was the original TMS demo car. The other dealer demos must be out there somewhere?
I know that some people have had 'things thrown in' rather than discounts.
Not sure about those people who have bought a dealer stock car rather than their own spec?

Not sure you're right in saying that the Tamora will be more reliable? If you get a 3.6l Tuscan you'll have the same engine. Even a new 4.0l Tuscan should have all the reliability sorted by now?

Best to drive both cars and see what you think?

Bearing in mind new TVRs arent selling like hot potatoes and apparently there is some surplus stock then I would imagine you can get a discount on a new one if you try hard enough. But it will be a pre-order rather than your own spec. Just my view.

Good point. Dealers are obliged to carry stock cars these days which will start to hurt their cashflow if they hang around too long as they'll (they have to buy a certain number each year). Some may take a small hit to smooth things out. You don't ask, you don't get

Earlier in the year, TMS had two new Tamora's available, (although they were advertised as used), one blue and one silver, at £36995 plus £1000 for the 18" alloys.

I bought the blue one in July and recently noticed that the silver one is still for sale at £36995 including the 18" alloys. That's a saving of £1000, plus immediate delivery, if you like the spec.

That Tamora is almost exactly what I was thinking about. I'll be sure to let you know if I part with my (not very) hard earned!

I know that the 3.6l is the same as the Tuscan, but I seem to hear far more horror stories about Tuscans than Tamora's.

I was talking to a service engineer at a certain dealership in Cheshire and he told me that the Tuscan still weren't sorted and that I should buy a V8. Top sales pitch.

I'm prepared to worry about the engine, but I'm not prepared to woory about the roof not fitting, the panelling falling off, the electrics packing up etc that I seem to hear all the time with Tuscans. The ones that I have looked at seem to be held together with blue tack, spit and little bit of "the force" all thrown in. They look smart, but the build quality seems "questionable".

Not seen enough Tamora's yet to compare the two.

I don't want to rub it in to anyone on here, but i got Two grand of list on mine, and to be honest i did'nt try that hard. I'm not saying i could of got more off list but thinking about i probably could have pushed him a bit harder

The reason you have heard more tuscan horror stories than tamora horror stories is there are MORE Tuscans out there.

Tuscans have been around for 2.5 years, tamoras 6 months!

As most of the real horror stories are about the engine, and they essentially have the same engine. Take your chances on either as their have been also a number of threads about, roofs not fitting, wearing interiors, electrics, other minor problems,etc on the tamora section as well.

Horror stories? I haen't heard about anyone dying or being maimed from faulty manufacture.

Sorry but my bosses S Class Brabus (New Shape) has had intermitant problems from day one of ownership. This is a German £100,000 car.

They still haven't fixed everything.

Stop bloody going on about horror stories etc. Cars go wrong. They are made by people not God.

I have a Tuscan S ready for me at Mole Valley and I am not at all worried about the reliability factor. And it will be used as everyday transport.

IF (touch wood it doesn't) it goes wrong then I shall whine and complain to Mole Valley not you lot.

from my (admittedly limited) experience of working on tamoras I'd say they were probably the best made tvr to date so stop typing and just buy one!!

Just reflecting on discussions at Local region TVR club. Their has been generally more concerns expressed with Tuscans/tamoras than griffiths/chimaeras.

The consensus still tends to be they are v. good cars, better handling - faster than the older cars, but have been lots of silly minor issues with new tamoras.. see threads....

Plus a bit of doubt about robustness of the S6 engine vs rover V8 block

This forum has be open about REAL owners experiences.
As sharing this information gives new owners the back up knowledge to challenge - they all do that sir - that some dealers fob you off with. To the long term benefit of us all..

Hopefully (have seen signs) better/continually improving dealer and factory support.

I personally don't have money to burn on expensive toys, but want an exciting/reliable sports car experience. Which I have enjoyed over 2 griff's and 9 years. The fact that I (and similar existing TVR owners)am generally a bit worried about 'upgrading' to a tuscan/tamora most be a concern to the factory.

The fact that I have also had more than one dealer main and independant express to me the relative reliabilies S6 vs the v8 is worrying.

i.e i have had both my cars for over 4 years, WHAT would happen if their was an engine issue after he 2 year warranty ran out. I have faith in my griff, but I'm to worried about this to buy a tuscan/tamora.

Whether my perception is right (or wrong) the fact that I have this perception (and many others) is a problem - Perhaps this partly explains why tuscans/tamoras are not selling like hot potatoes.

Ah, what short (and convenient) memories people have! I seem to remember, when I was looking at buying my first TVR 5 years ago, that the main comment made in reports/reviews etc, on the Chimarea and Griffith, was to get one about 2 years old, because by then all the niggles and mechanical problems would have beeen sorted out by the first owner. Plus ca change!

Chimareas regularly blow their exhaust gaskets, don't they? Mine did after 2000 miles, and had a hole in it's petrol tank, petrol guage failed after 4000 miles,the brake light actuator fell off the back of the brake pedal, dashboard lights failed, various trim niggles etc. DON'T tell me the Tamora is shit, and indulge in a little bit of schadenfruede - this "Rover V8 reliability" thing is, it seems to me, not only false,but also being used to reflect on some people's idea that the Griffmaera should still be in production, and gets perilously close to the "life was better in my day" argument. I prefer to see TVR making progress, moving on, and I applaud them for producing their own engines, and trying to become a tru car production company, on a shoestring budget.

My personal experience is 2 griffiths.

No major problems - current car only a couple of very minor things from new.

- stuck seatbelt - fixed on warranty
- indicator/main beam switch broke

Generally for all TVR's (lots of othr car manufaturers 2) letting the first owner sort out any minor niggles etc, plus pay the big chunk of depreciation, is good advice, a 2 year old car should be very sorted.

BUT - IT's the major mechanicals that worry me, and I think prospective buyers.
If you go to dealers, griffiths/chims 1-2 years and older appear to be shifting quite respectably. See thread about Adrian Blyth's shortage of griffs in stock(keep getting sold)
Whereas there seem to be a number of 2 year old tuscans hanging around the dealers. A number of people are thinking what if the engine let go!!! Who pays in a year or 2. This is not generally thought about with the other cars.

I do think the tuscan/tamora are better design, more modern cars, faster!!, better handling, more wow factor,etc (so this is not bring back the griffith)
I just won't be buying one until I think it is safe to do so.

As a reminder TVR have been building s6 engines for over 3 years now, and there are apparently still problems with new ones, and long term reliability of the engine is (I do say this with regret) suspect..
However in my my impression the current AJP V8's are pretty sorted(correct me if wrong). So heres hoping fo the S6

Personally I think you would have to be very brave(OR RICH) to deal with TVR own design engine issues outside of warranty.

Still trying to wangle one on a 3 year contract hire, so it's the finance company not me at risk... :-)
