Looking at a 2016 3 series. Its on 70k miles. Only had 1 service whicj was done at 52k. Its approx £2k cheaper than others.

Worth a punt or dont touch with a barge pole?

I wouldn’t.

Though it could have been services but just not by a bmw dealer/specialist

Run away. I wouldn't buy it at any price.

There are thousands of others with a fully documented history - buy one of those instead.

Only you can decide whether you want to risk it. On here you'll have loads say yes, loads say no. The thing is, it's your money, not theirs.

If it really has only had one service at 52k, I wouldn't touch it; it's not as if it's a rare car. I'm not a great believer in extended oil changes but, even if I was, 52,000 miles is asking a lot and that's assuming it even had the correct amount of oil in it.

However, if it's simply BMW's service schedule showing only one service but it can be proven to have had other servicing, ie by a fleet's own garage, then I might consider it.

I'd take a punt on a £1k shed station car, but not on something worth proper money.

50k on the same oil won't have done the turbo or timing chain any good at all, and these are marginal as it is on a lot of modern BMW engines. I'd walk away. There are thousands out there.

Your going to pay 2k less now but who do you expect to buy it off you in the future and at what price? Your probably going to lose another few grand when u sell it compared to one that's actually been serviced.

You can't say u lost service book etc because modern BMW store all service history electronically and anyone with a brain would expect a 2016 BMW to have had a good few services at a main dealer before Dave next doors uncle serviced it for you but didn't stamp the book.

I’d want it at least £4K cheaper and even then I’d be very wary. What else have they neglected?

Or, to look at it another way, it's a little bit newer than others with a history.

What's the background is it a private sale or a car dealership. I assume its not a BMW dealer as that would normally justify the car going to auction.

I looked at an E90 a while back - it was a couple of years old, it was cheap privately as had a poor service history and the current owner was using an indy for servicing since he bought it. A bit of digging and calling BMW service line found that it actually had full BMW service history but the book hadn't been stamped.I ended up getting an estate.

Call BMW they should be able to give you any info if it exists!

Have you spoken to anyone at the vendor for more detailed info on history?

From the ad it states Yes next to service history and it was last serviced at 52k nothing to suggest it hasn't had a service or two carried out before then?!

If it has had only one at 52k then that isn't a service history in my eyes.

As others have stated it's not it is a rare car so plenty more to have a look at.

cheers

Chris

advert just says last service at 52k .... have you spoken to them and confirmed that that is the only service it has had ?

a quick call to BMW customer services will tell you if it has had more

52k is roughly where the third service should fall on these

Quick look on Autotrader finds a lot of others on 64/15 plates for the same money.

So it's literally a question of a year versus history.

I’d say that is even too little off frankly.

As others have said even if it was a shed there are so so many other cars out there to pick and choose.

Imagine a lotus Carlton not serviced in 52k miles- £2k cheaper than the rest which have been serviced... would you buy it really ?

There's no way they're just gonna be making 2/3k on that car. It'll have been traded in & been auctioned for a pittance as a BMW dealer won't be able to sell it with that history.

You might consider it it at a big reduction, but 2k just isn't enough - they will be printing money at that price.

Don't bother, your questioning it now, if you buy it what do you think will happen when you come to sell it ?

Ok so it might have full service history but you can do the rest of the leg work...............

22nd Nov 2016 Barons Stanstead 01279 755 906
15th may 2017 Stephen James Enfield 020 843 843
16th Jan 2018 Barons Stanstead

That is the BMW dealership visits its had I can't tell what for could be service, bodywork, recall etc etc

Give them a buzz
I don't see many 330d's for sale at that mileage and price if the services check out which at a guess looks like every 20k to me then I would say its not a bad deal, let us know what happens and what you get!

Useful info.
call and ask them if they have any record of it being serviced and get a print out. Voila - you probably have a full service history and a bargain car.

I cannot understand why someone would not get it serviced and void the warranty on a < 3 year old car.
