Keen to move up from my 3dr Fiesta to something more comfortable when driving longer motorway journeys, more fuel efficient and a little bit more luxurious.

Looking at 66 plates and newer, <20,000 miles and between £15-20k. Manual 5dr is preferred with new tech but I’m also after a car which I can have fun in when bashing around the countryside. Generally only do motorway miles around the weekend as I work away so I’m only considering a petrol. Currently looking at A3s, 1 series and Golfs - 1.4/1.5 petrol at 150PS. A3 S-Line is winning for me so far as the interior is just so nice. 1 series is probably in second place and Golf in third as the SE to GT specs are quite bland in my opinion (but I appreciate an A3 is too, just a bit nicer bland). Appreciate your opinions or whether I’d be making a mistake going for an A3 this weekend.

Thanks for the help!

I agree with many of them, but a lot are just more powerful versions of the ones the OP mentioned, I'm not sure adding just power makes a car sportier

Hard to beat the A3 for a plush interior in this sector but worth sitting in a Golf GTI as it definetly meets your main requirement of being a “comfy yet sporty daily”. Few extra sprinkles in the interior over the lower trims definetly help liven it up without being too in your face. Naturally I’m biased as I own one but I’d argue it’s best all rounder one can buy, not the most thrilling yes, but I’m assuming with the cars you’ve seen so far is that you’re looking for a balance. You’ll easily be able to pick up an excellent example within the budget, age and mileage you’ve stated, perhaps even a performance pack model or later mk7.5 facelift.
