Bmw 545i e60 misfire?
Discussion
Driving to Manchester airport last week to go away for the week I felt something was not quite right with the smoothness of the car. It was carrying 4 people and a bootfull of luggage so I thought it maybe that.
But just 5 miles into the 100 mile journey the engine management light came on and the car starting shaking even at idle. I pulled over and the message on the Idrive said something along the lines of "increased engine loads may damage the catalytic converter "
I restarted the car and it was much better but not right, the light had gone out but any medium acceleration would be hesitant to I had to feather the throttle all the way just in case.
The car got me there and back but it's still not right. I've tried cataclean with no luck but to be honest the car has been run on super unleaded for most of its life. My obd2 scanner bought up zero faults as did torque pro.
It feels like a misfire on one of the cylinders as I can feel it missing even on tickover. I presume it could be a coil pack as the spark plugs were changed 2k miles ago.
Is it worth me buying carly or should I just take it to a specialist?
