Live in Caretaker job
Discussion
Hi all,
I've just applied for a live in caretaker job in a new build development of upmarket flats within easy commuting distance to a big city so presumably aimed at professional types.
A one bed apartment is supplied with all bills paid and the hours are part time.
I'm 48, single with no ties, renting atm so worth a look.
Anyone do anything similar? Pros/cons etc?

Apart from the obvious things raised living on the job can be a relentless nightmare. Forget what hours you are supposed to work, once residents know where you are you will be interrupted 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
This ^^^^^^Try teling a resident it's your day off when they are screaming at you that the boiler isn't working

The other consideration is any tax implications for "free accommodation". I lived on the job for several years, three bed wing of a mansion, own private gardens, garage(s), even my own little beach. No bills at all, not even food. Only thing I paid for was booze, company even paid for my mobile so I could be on call.
However, this was before HMRC took an interest, I dread to think what the liability would be on that now!
