Looking for any help if possible , has anyone had similar issues with o2.

We had 2 contracts with o2 since 2000 , since 2010 we were on payg as phones not that essential any more for work. I left them in 2014 and my pac numbers moved to three as wanted to use their at home roaming.
Move on to 2018 and looking at remortgaging. . Broker says no. Check credit file.
O2 had put markers on my file May 2014 as £11 overdue which escalated to default in May 2015.
The last 2 weeks have been a nightmare , the default didn’t show which account or phone number the default was registered against , one account was simply showing closed May 2014. Getting any sense from 02 customer services has been a complete ball ache, even visited a shop who read my emails to o2 and the 2 line reply ‘debt sold & to call this number’. The shop tried to help with direct numbers to o2 but since then I’ve been passed from pillar to post , one number given was to report bereavements.
3 operators told me my debt had been sold to a company called Moorcroft , more calls yesterday and I speak to Moorcroft , they’d never heard of me - I asked for this in writing but as I wasn’t registered on their accounts said was unable to help.
Another call to o2 and get told again that debt sold , frustratedly explain I’ve spoken to Moorcroft and not with them. 10 minutes on hold to say I am correct, debt is still with o2. Would I like to pay. I said I’ll pay but I want the default removed as i’d received no letters of overdue bill or a letter to inform of impending default notice. Not a single letter in 4 years. She says if I pay she will mark file as paid and I must email credit referrals. I explain I’d already done this who informed me the debt was sold , obviously not.
I ask to speak with credit referrals to be told it’s email only. This is fking ridiculous , if my customers have a query we don’t exchange emails every 12 days, we talk. She says impossible.
I ask how possible this happened, she replies o2 sent me a text message saying £10.59 owing in May 2014 , IF they did and I read this I would have presumed at the time a mistake as I was on payg. They didn’t send any repeat texts and no letters as it’s not required.

A search on the web shows this is very common move on o2 part , other phone companies also but seem to remove default on payment.
There is no ombudsman to control them , they don’t have to issue repeat invoices or notify of default. My credit file for is fked for the next 3 years over £11.

Has anyone else had the same scenario and what can I do.
I’ve read a blog from another customer and it took over 2 years to remove the default after o2 were reprimanded by the communications ombudsman. O2 still dragged their heels and removed it on the ,final ,28th day.

Telecommunications companies have to be registered with one of the two ombudsman.

O2 are registered with www.ombudsman-services.org/sectors/communications

Unfortunately that don’t come under the strict financial requirements of banks and credit card companies regarding outstanding debt. They have no obligation to send letters. Ludicrous.

Pay the debt, O2 then have to update your credit file. If they fail to do so, then the Ombudsman can, I think, take up your case as the O2 have an obligation to accurately record your payment history.

Once the debt is no longer outstanding, you may have more luck with the mortgage although the marker will probably still affect who will lend to you and at what rate.

I paid it yesterday at first ask, once I finally found out who it was owed to. Not the DRA.
They will mark file as settled within 60 days! Like I’ve written, it’s been a nightmare couple of weeks trying to get answers. I’ve lived at the same address for 20 years and kept mobile number for 18. They’ve had 4 years of opportunities to contact me.
To take the piss even more they texted both phones a month ago asking if we’d consider a return to o2. To a debtor!

Pay it so its settled.

I would be fairly sure due to the low amount and age that some main street lenders would still accept you.

Which lender rejected you?

Has the broker tried applying for any agreement in principles with lenders that do soft searches? (credit checks that wont effect your credit score)

Whats your LTV?

We haven’t been rejected completely but unable to secure best rates. Broker advised I look into credit file and see if anything untoward. I hadn’t thought to check before as have a pch 2016, new three contract 2018. Have 4 c/cards but only use 1 for expenses , others randomly to keep the score up. Bank always in credit with regular ins and outs.
He hasn’t got back to me today but I left a message last night. Remortgage is 35% of value. Didn’t think so much hassle over the amount.
I’ll get another email off to o2creditreferrals and their complaints contact tonight. Then await replies and keep an eye on the credit file and score. Have made sub-notes already on the o2 file as in dispute.

After more emails today, to o2 credit referrals , at 5pm I had a result :

“Hello
Thanks for responding.
I have removed the late payments and default from your credit file.
Please allow 48 hours for the changes to complete however wait 30 days for the changes to filter onto your credit file.

Well that's great news, but that could take a while to work through.

I know it won’t be an immediate result but from reading through forum after forum I’m in an extremely small minority that have gotten anywhere with o2.
I’ll update on how long it takes to remove. I’ve spoken with broker this morning and he says a soft search once it’s removed.
Obviously missed out on latest deals so it’s cost me a small amount anyway but better than 3 years of waiting for default removal.
