Tudor Black bay old vs new
Discussion
Just casting an eye over the second hand market of Tudor Black Bays. I notice that the old version with the 'smiley' dial text, ETA mod movement, and rose logo is now commanding a premium over the newer version with the in house movement. Is this purely a case of it now being discontinued?
I own the old version, in the original red, and assumed it's value would drop with the introduction of the new version.
Just curious, not concerned about value either way.

A lot of people don't like the changes to the dial on the newer version, plus the in-house movement, makes the case a couple of mm thicker, again, puts some people off.I own the old version, in the original red, and assumed it's value would drop with the introduction of the new version.
For many, the attraction was the ETA movement (can be fixed/serviced more easily) coupled with the retro nod to the original Tudor Sub design from 1953ish.
The black bezel version in particular is the most sort after with premium prices, as it was only made for about 6 months or so prior to the introduction of the newer version (rumour has it only 2-3000 or so were made in this short period)
In fairness to the chap who sold it, Frazer Heart York, when I bought one for my son's 18th he advised that he thought the older model would probably be a better bet residuals wise in the future.
Must admit I was a little dubious, but fair play to him. Even better after a small discount was negotiated as well!
