Importing a 1976 mini to UK from Sri Lanka
Discussion
Hello All,
I wonder if I can pick your brains on this unusual matter.
I am a Sri Lankan who lives in UK permanently and I used to have a 1976 mini back when I used to live in SL, I never sold the car and my father used the car while I was gone and now he passed away few weeks ago so I want to bring this car back to UK with me mainly for sentimental reasons.
Sending vehicles from UK to Sri Lanka is a very easy procedure but I'm yet to find any information on this being done the other way around.
I will be transferring the car to myself in next few days.
I've spoken Sri Lankan authorities and identified the process within Sri Lanka , now I need to know the procedure I have to follow within UK.
1. Should I use an importer from UK or an exporter from Sri Lanka to ship the car?
2. Are there any reputed shipping agents I can use?
3. Do I initiate the process first within UK or from Sri Lanka
Any help is much appreciated ,
ps- the car is originally made in UK.

ayubowan from a fellow lankan -
Well I dont think you will have any issues in importing it to the UK as long as the papers are fine as many collectors do bring in cars from other countries here
the issue is at the Lankan end with endless red tape etc you might need to ask someone there
On a different note I have seen an e-type Jag in Colombo running the latest Lankan reg plates and I wonder how he exported it from here as normally ther eis a restriction on cars more than 3 years old
