Guys

Has anybody else put an after market retrofit CAT back in the exhaust after the turbo to sort the emissions out?

If so what did you use and how far back is it?

Hi, I asked the same thing. Aparently there isn't any room to put one further down. I use the helpful tester route.

If you find an answer, let me know. Cheers thumbup

I cannot see where one would go, so I use a tester who hasn't been to Specsavers.
Having said that, my Saab has one just south of its turbo, so it must be possible if you have a GCSE in welding.

Trouble is when they find out they can be fined £2500, they suddenly decide it is not worth it as its their lively hood is gone.

Logically I think you would fit it in the straight section of exhaust between the flexi section and the silencer. Anything with the correct pipe diameter should make it a straight forward fitting.
If it was me, and I may well do this if there's nuffink on the telly this weekend (so that's a yes, cos there never is anyfink on the telly), I would pop down to KwikFit and ask their manager to put the car up on the ramp and tell you if he thinks he could fit a cat, and, if so, which one and where. He could also advise you if he thinks you would need some heat shielding around it, as you definitely don't want the fibreglass getting too hot.

i think my solution would be to put a pair of manifolds with the precats still in place and if on a decent aftermarket ecu get an mot map which should do the job as i thinks even a sports cat to fit the first section of pipe will be to big to fit between the chassis and sump no ggo d fitting a little cat just to get it in the space as any performance gained will largely be lost.

A wheeler dealers episode had a system custom made for the Cobra replica which had an emissions problem.
Probably a blatant plug for the company but looked a well made product.

I installed a Magna Flow 448009 cat after the Y price running parallel to the sump. It's a 400 cell cat which is a bit restrictive but passed an IM240 (Australian ) for a 1996 car emissions test easily.

Cat physically fits easily, only real concern was being so far under the engine ...if it would stay hot enough to work properly..which by judging by the test results it does.

Cat was a 96 Griff 500 with a SC power supercharger.
