Would you do the same? £4-5k budget "fast" saloon/coupe

Hi all.

So I took over my mum's car finance when she passed away and I've recently just passed my test. The car is a VW Polo 1.4 Auto. I've been driving the car for just over a month now and tbh I don't really like it that much (hatches in general). I've always wanted a saloon/coupe type.

My insurance for the Polo is £211p/m so I was thinking why not get a "cooler" car. Autotrader estimate for the car for p/x is £5.5k but I'm hoping I could get around £6k+ if I sell privately. Budget is around £4-5k and the rest of the money I'll save for maintenance.

I was looking at e46's/e90's 318i/320i/325i like the following:

According to comparethemarket, my insurance for the cars I listed above is around £225-230 which isn't bad.

Go for it if you want one & can get insured then why wouldn't you get one of those instead of a Polo.

Take a look at CLK's too, I'm bias but love the way all the windows drop away & if you get a sport model you get the nicer seats.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it! I did check the CLK's but I prefer the look of the BMW's.

Went to see this 04 330ci https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... but it has 120k miles on it. What do you think? Is the mileage too high? Maybe I can get the dealer to lower the price, p/e my car and save the rest of the money.

I had a look at this 06 325i https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201... earlier but the dealer was kind of a dick and seemed very unenthusiastic.

I'd swerve the 330i & if a dealer doesn't want your money spend it elsewhere.

Had a thought about it but I might just p/e the Polo and keep the rest of the money.
