Am embarassed to admit it, but left the lights on yeterday (you know, the usual story...left in the dark, arrived in the light..and a rare occassion where I didn't glance back at the pride and joy in my rush to catch the train)

Anyhow, the battery predictably went flat

Several (knowing) commuters were smiling at me when the blip key didn't work on my return...then a (very) good samaritan informs me of my error and offers to help jump me...but where's the f'ing battery...oh! completely out the way under the engine, and unapproachable even from underneath)...several unanswered phone calls to dealers (it was 7-8pm!) and 45 minutes later and I eventually find Plans Motorsport number via my PH on my blackberry...wow, it does come in handy...

A very nice chap...sorry didn't get his name...but he explained you have to connect the black (earth) lead to the gearbox (large alloy lump beneath and slightly back from passenger side turbo, and the live connects directly to the starter motor (also accessed from passenger side and recognisable for red covered cable entry point..slightly further rearward, and higher up than the gearbox) - all this is probably in the manual, but that's not much help if it is in the car and you have no battery power to open that up!

suffice to say it jumped and I eventually arrived home...to do some exterior decorating of the house in the dark...but a big thank you to the helpful chap at Plans and to my good samaritan!

Also, car ran fine this morning, so one 25m blast boosted battery enough to keep alarm on all night and restart the engine.

....I think I'll keep up the rearward glances at my pride and joy on car park departure from now on!

Morten, doesn't yours have a lights-on alarm warning then?!

I'm sure there is a way of getting in when the battery is flat. Not going to discuss this on an open forum though.

yeah I remembered reading it in the manual, but couldn't find the thingamybob...its suitably not obvious (just as well given the phillips screw suitability for front clam opening)

and no...there is no warning on my car :sighobviously an "early" classic...no.36 or thereabouts!

Mine comes with a verbal warning system. It's called 'neighbours'. When I leave the lights on, they they emit an audible 'oi', often preceded by a loud doorbell ring.
