I don't do FB but I thought I'd have a little nosey round to see if it may be a better way to go about selling my car (wider audience and all that).

First thing I noticed which has, in all honesty, put me off even looking further is that the distance limit seems to be 62 miles, WTF?? Am I missing something, in other words, is there an option for a nationwide search? It does seem rather pointless if that is the case

I've bought and sold through FB Marketplace, it's pretty decent if you price things sensibly. You can change the search radius, but also pick some other location as the centre of that radius. I've also found Nextdoor pretty good as all people on it are verified as being in the area.

Not sure about the Marketplace specifically

I generally use buy and selling groups. The market place is worse than a car boot sale.

The poorly written ads get me.

For instance....

Car wheels £400

There will be a pic of the wheels, but no other information as to size, fitment, or even what they came off.

There seems to be a competition running on Facebook to come up with an advert combining the absolute minimum of information combined with the worst picture and then drip feed additional information at the slowest rate possible.

The responders aren't much better either in many cases. Often incomprehensible questions, some asking what has already been stated. You're going to need a thick skin and the patience of Job to sell there.

I have a few rants about the Facebook classifieds

The prices get me like the items that are listed for £1 which clearly aren't for sale for that amount or items listed for £123456789. Maybe I should turn up to buy an item for £123456789 in cash and wind them up biggrin

On private groups putting "is this still available" every 5 mins on an item gets annoying - why can't people be patient?

Then there's the stupid offers like people offering less then half the price, asking to hold the item for ages and not turning up then the usual "wots yer best price" and "I get get a similar item for much cheaper" b.s. It's nice to know you can get a similar item for cheaper. If thats the case f**k off!

To be fair Max, that is the standard FB response when you click on 'get more details'

Frustrating when you want to ask a pertinent question...

Maybe it's just me but I've found FB local selling pages to be a really effective way of getting rid of low-value crap. Much more useful than Gumtree or eBay. You do have to deal with the odd numpty or ten but less painful than the Freecycle crowd.
