Hello To All

New on here , picking up a Cayman 981 next week, (excited) Been a Porsche owner for many years before defecting to Audi for a few years

Looking for some help, the car I have purchased is a 2013 Model, it had all the stuff I wanted except sat nav, can anybody help with rough costs and what is needed to upgrade this and get sat nav to work, I guess its not a case of just adding a DVD that would be too easy

Appreciate any help

Many Thanks

ian

The retrofit kit from Porsche is about £3800 inc VAT. After fitting, you need to enter an activation code using a PIWIS tester.

Sorry to hijack the thread, I'm picking up a 981 Cayman S 2015 "65" plate soon.

been told its got PCM4.0 how do I get the maps updated? dealer told me they are upto date but I think hes mistaken my question for "is the sat nav the latest model"

Map update is £300 and done through the OPC.

But I think the latest Porsche maps are 2015 anyway so it may not be worth it.

Saleman at the OPC told me all his customers want sat nav but most rely on Google Maps. Sat nav is handy as you get the touchscreen interface too. But for navigation not the best

Yeh I was annoyed that my previous car (2014 Leon Cupra) was 6 months too old to get Android Auto, from there I could of used Google Maps and Waze.

I do tend to use Waze at the moment tbh but prefer built in systems.

They are touch screen even without Sat Nav.

Re OP’s question.

Isn’t there an Apple Play upgrade you can do for around £500 which allows you to use Google Maps through the screen?

Wasn't PCM 4 introcuded with the 718? I have a 65 plate Cayman 981 and it is PCM 3.1, no live traffic or Car play.

Latest maps are late 2015 which mine already had ( think it's called the 2016 map ). Dealer said there aren't any new updated but one should come out soon.

I was told it was pcm 4.0 but i also thought it was 718 only. Will see when I finally get to see the car.

i wouldn't bother. it's really slow to update your direction as you turn and so it's really easy to take the wrong exit on a roundabout... and there are a lot of roundabouts.

i used it the first few times, made several wrong exits at roundabouts and have used my phone since. it's always up to date, is better at avoiding traffic, keeps up with what i'm doing, looks better and is way smoother in operation.

YMMV

I have a 987 with sat nav, but use Waze on my phone instead, it's on a magnetic suction mount on the right of the steering wheel and really doesn't get in the way. I've also installed an iPhone charging cable that's neatly tucked away into the door rubber. My iPhone has a cover from Amazon with a built-in metal plate in the back so it sticks to the magnet.

This is by far the most cost effective and tidiest way to get a decent sat nav in the car if yours is out of date (or doesn't exist in the first place).

If you want photos or links to the bits I bought let me know.

Would be interested in pics/links as using a phone holder at the moment but the way the air vents are (vertical) the phone swings away from me during hard cornering

There is a Carplay kit and an upcoming Android Auto kit for the PCM 3.1 / CDR + in the 981. It is approx. 600 and properly integrated with the headunit and steering controls.

There is an official uk supplier but I think the Aussie lot are the origin for the kit.

That site needs a good proof read. I’m amazed that a legitimate company would publish writing like that.

Just change the head unit.
I bought a 981 CGTS in May.
Fitted a Pioneer AVIC unit with Apple CarPlay in place of PCM. Sat Nav is up to date and future updates free for 3 years.
Way nicer interface than the ‘old tech’ PCM.
2 USB’s. iPod in the glove box and phone in the centre console. Perfect for my needs.
Works with Android as well.
£700 ish. Bargain in my view.
Just refit PCM when selling the car in the future.

I don’t have steering wheel controls but I think it does connect.
These guys know and are really helpful.
