I got a producer....then I forgot about it...
Discussion
No use worrying about something you can't change. What's done is done... just get yourself down there and either (a) hope they don't notice, (b) look all sheepish and apologetic or (c) claim you couldn't find some part of your documentation until this morning...
Personally, I'd go with (b).

I was going to go with (b) too.
I hope if I turn up after work in my suit it may look a bit better than if I turn up in my usuall scruffyness.. I'm worrying about this like it's a smegging court case!
what bothers me is the chap who did 173mph got summonsed for no insurance because he didn't produce and I was wondering how long it took before they decided "no insurance, lets book 'im" even though I obviously am insured
I just haven't produced yet
The way to look at it, though, is: "what can I do to change the outcome?". If the answer's "nothing" just get it over with and stop worrying. If the answer's "something" then get doing it rather than worrying about it... I think the former's the case, though.
If all docs in order then I can't see them being silly about it anyway. You could always act dumb and say something like "I thought I had 7 days to find the docs and then produce on the 8th"...
Don't sweat it.

A number of years ago I failed to produce (it seems I threw the MOT of my new car out instead of the old written off one).
Got hold of the last owner and he agreed to get a copy but this did not happen in the 7 days so I went down the police station on the 7th day, showed them my other docs and explained what had happened. The guy on the desk says it was out of his hands and it would go to court.
On the day I went to court with the copy and pleaded guilty to "failure to supply" and explained what had happened and was told I should have pleaded not guilty and was asked if I had incurred any costs.

Last time I had a dipsy, I "produced on the 7th day".
It was a sunday evening about 10pm. The woman behind the desk checked all was in order, then said a flag would have already shown up that I hadn't produced, but the copper probably wouldn't chase it for a couple of days.
Never heard any more of it.

Failing to produce Driving Licence/Counterpart.
Defence (Section 164 (8) Road Traffic Act 1988
Produced within 7 days at a Police Station nominated at time of request,or
Produced it there in persons as soon as was reasonably practicable,or
It was not reasonably practicable to produce them before the day on which proceedings were commenced. This is the day that the information is laid.
Failing to produce Insurance/Test Certificate.
Defence -Similar provisions to the above are contained at Section 165 (4).
If the docs are in order then get down to Plod Shop pdq, explain that due due to fact docs mislaid this is the first opportunity to produce and have them note this fact. Quitely also draw their attention to the Defence.
If they report and summons issued, plead Not Guilty and quote the above.
Would advise anyone in the future in the same position to speak to Plod before the 7 days are up requesting extended time. Saves a lot of hassle on both sides.
