Interesting, they may just get away with it as well. Even more so if they have two or three passports (I've got three valid ones myself, and I'm not even remotely connected to Jason Bourne!)

Heard that on the radio this morning, all that from 33 camera triggers apparently so a long way off the full length of szr. Makes my £2k of traffic fines last year look a bit better at least.
A large amount of that will be impound charges. I ran a red light earlier this year which meant a £220 fine and 30days impound, waivable if you pay an additional fee (roughly £22 per day).

Me too. However IME you have to fly "out" on the same passport that you flew "in" on - they always look for entry stamps.Interesting, they may just get away with it as well. No, you don’t and no, they don’t.
They certainly do check for entry. If they don't check for physical entry stamps like the US or Australia (which doesn't stamp passports any more IIRC) the system will automatically check for a valid entry when the MRZ is scanned (Machine Readable Zone, those letters, numbers and chevrons on the bottom on the photo page). If no valid entry is detected you'll be taken aside for further investigation (politely in the UK, wouldn't make any bets on how nicely they'll treat you in the UAE trying to skip out on £35K of fines). Even exiting on a different passport you'll still have the same name. If they're going to stop you for fines at the airport, using a different passport wont help.

Hardly taken aside for further questioning. They’ll say ‘where’s your entry stamp’ and then you’ll show them your other passport and be on your way. Or they might not ask at all, totally country dependent.
So you've never actually seen someone try to do this. I have. You will be taken aside, if for nothing else to keep the line moving.
If they're going to flag you for fines on departure, using a different passport with the same name won't help you one iota (using one with a different name will get you in a lot more trouble).
Seen & done. Had passports stolen and so travelled out on a different one, no questions asked. Had passports defaced resulting in raised eyebrows and nothing more. Entered countries on expired or full passports multiple times. Only real issue i had was when i flew into uk to get the defaced passport replaced and the woman on the immigration desk told me it was illegal to hold multiple passports ...
Anyway, missing the point now aren’t we.

Fines are not in his name, but rental co's.Also if you had two passports and you were considering behaving this stupidly, you'd give the passport *without* the entry stamp to the rental company.
A woman I work with had a job in Dubai, her employer rented a car for her in her name for two years. When she left that employment, in bad grace, she left the hire car at the airport, employer was to pick it up and return it to the hire company. They didnt.
This was five years ago.
When she went back to Dubai earlier this year, she was arrested at Customs and put straight in jail on a charge of stealing the car, this was despite the fact that her new passport showed a different married name than 5 years previous. Car was still in the airport car park.
She was only allowed out of jail when a percentage of the parking charges were agreed to be paid and rental company paid in full. They threatened to charge her with the cost of writing off the car.
She has been told not to try and come back to Dubai.

Whilst the speeds he was doing are ridiculous, i doubt he knowingly racked up the fines. The speed cameras look nothing like uk ones and are spaced every km down the main routes.
The only way he will be held is if the hire company successfully petitions for a travel ban which appears they have been unable to do. His biggest issue currently is whether he is able to pay the fines when presented with the invoice. The impound fees are a grey area and would depend on the contract wording but the fine element should be clear cut and not being able to pay debts under sharia law is an easy route to chokey.
