Hi there,

Have my first track day in the Elise this weekend and wanted to understand if there is any specific prep work outside of tyres / brakes / fluids etc. One area of concern is the lack of dry / baffled sump. Is there any point in overfilling to try and avoid cavitation? Will overfilling cause damage? How much do you overfill?

Does anybody know of a baffle system for the Elise?

Thanks,

Rob

Turn up, drive.

As a responsible Lotus driver your car will be in good condition, will have the correct tyre pressures (all round), not be low or overfilled on oil, same goes for coolent, you'll have checked the brake fluid and that will be fine, noticed the brake pads have plenty of life left in them, and arrived with a responsible frame of mind.

It isn't a race, no prizes for coming first only tears for having a prang. Don't get too close to any other car either following them (they spin you hit them) or being followed (you spin they collect you).

Remember, only pass on the left, best with consent from the other driver, and never ever in a corner.

Best prep you can do is mental. Take your time, learn the course and GET SOME INSTRUCTION!! Can't stress that enough, it really will be worth it.

Have fun!

...Sorry, got a bit ahead of myself there!
www.eliseparts.com do a sump baffle. I have heard this is only a consideration if your running slicks/semi-slicks on a fast course (spa?), or are going to Rockingham and using the oval.

I've done stacks of days in my 80,000 mile S1 and no problems without one (yet).

Thanks for the info!

I'm looking forward to the trackday in the Elise. I'm not a stranger to trackdays in a TVR, but I would imagine that the Elise is going to be a different expereience!

Should be a fair deal cheaper for a start - they're easier on the consumables which are cheaper anyway.

Echo you'll be fine with standard oil system on anything bar really sticky tyres. What did you buy in the end? If an S1, might be worth having the geometry checked by someone competent and who understands Elises. Pagid brake pads are also good, but that can wait. If an S2, then it's a bit more involved to get rid of the built in understeer nastiness.

Hi Danny,

I bought an S1 Sport 160 with LSS. Very hard but handles like a dream (well in comparison to a Cerbera!)

Cheers,

Rob

If your based in London I could'nt recomend enough having your car looked after by Sinclaires at Gallows Corner, Romford. They can do a suspension geo check too.
