I need a new stereo for the Griff. I currently have a nice, but old and faulty Blaupunkt. Simple grey LCD it suits the car.

I'm looking for something with bluetooth and USB but not all garish jumping coloured graphics and just wondered what other people have.

This is still my absolute favourite even though it's nearing vintage territory (made between 2003-7 or so):

I've just changed the one in my Chimaera by a Pioneer MVH-390BT.
It has not a lot of functions, no CDs, no DAB (but in France we are far from that), but has the BT (with handfree calling) and a USB port.
Design is sober (like most of MVH BT) and the black finish goes well with my carbon fiber dash.
With extra pounds you can have DAB and various lighting colors.

DEH-P77MP is nice I guess with a metallic dash but it doesn't have the BT, no?

Pioneer MVH-X580DAB

After a lot of research.

Don't be put off by promo pics. All the garish colours can be changed. I have all the led lighting set to white. alpine sty!e green looks good too.

All the right features. dab works great. External mic for phone hands free. 7 band eq. Three sets of phonos.

Only neg is it is barely readable in sunlight without shading it.

I've got a 90's Alpine, it's awful, in fact I switched it on for the first time yesterday, and switched it off straight away.
I'm thinking of getting the stereo removed, I've no interest in listening to music etc in the Griff.
If I did get a new stereo I'd make sure it was DAB and as easy to use as possible.

I have the Pioneer kit I specified when I ordered the car back in 1999; a Pioneer DEH P835 head unit with a 6 stack CD changer and a 4 x 200w Pioneer amp in the boot and upgraded Pioneer speakers. Tidy fit by the factory and sounds great. I love having music in the TVR, over the years we've toured Europe in it many times and it's nice to listen to a CD and cruise for a while. It's not always flat out!

I have one of these in my Griff, best (and most legal, compared to touching your phone) sat nav system, and it does everything a modern OEM car system does.

Nice, and is it not to annoying when deployed for fan switches?

You only need to screen out for the SAT NAV, though all the controls are on the big touch screen aswell, So I tend t leave it out. You can simply play the radio, Dab/FM, Spotify, and make phone calls with the screen in.

picture a bit dark.

DEH-P77MP is what we have. Becoming a bit tired now and sadly nothing else quite as simple and elegant.

I've been looking at the mechless ones, specifically the MVH-X580BT as a possible replacement (as you can make the scree white like the car's dials)

One tip.
If like me, you like to listen to one preset radio channel for a bit, then another, then another, make sure you get one with proper buttons, and big enough buttons far enough apart to get your sausage fingers onto in a bouncing TVR.
I spent £185 on a super duper Pioneer, full of bells and whistles, about 5 years ago, and it doesn't have proper preset buttons.......irritates me endlessly.

It's like rotating knob for volume setting, now I think that most of devices have one but in the nineties it's was so trendy to have buttons and of course this is not user-friendly at all, especially in a car where you have to pump up the volume wink when driving and move it down when waiting at traffic light.

Add me to the DEH-P77MP fan club!

I have yet to find a more sophisticated, restrained, modern yet classic looking design. In my humble opinion anyways.

Getting old now. They regularly pop-up on eBay. To be fair, hardly ever use it.... engine provides the soundtrack I need wink

Methinks there might be a niche market for refurbished and maybe internally modernised units; by the look of their gallery, Eagle E-Types seem to be a fan, too smile

Note that even back then, Pioneer offered the option of an add-on DAB tuner. smile

Hadn't thought about a refurb... interesting idea
