Hi guys hopefully someone on here can help me out I'm in a stty job just now and was looking at doing one of these gas engineer foundation courses. It's 26 weeks with a provider called training development Scotland and promises that should I complete the course I can become gas safe registered. Are these just a scam? I have no previous experience with anything like this all my previous employment is social care am I likely to ever find work from doing this course?

Thanks

I've looked into all sorts of courses based around speedy learning provided by a training centre and from what I can gather is that they are not really a scam but once you've paid your monies and done your time you'll find it difficult to find an employer due to nobody taking these sorts of courses seriously. Employers prefer proper time served workers who've gone through the apprenticeship route.

Look for an apprenticeship. There is no way you will learn enough on this course and where are you getting all the evidence of experience you need to complete the nvq. Took me 2 years to become gas safe on an apprenticeship and I was still pretty much useless as an employee when I qualified!

My advice and your best bet would be to get into smart metering, these course would give you the limited knowledge that would be useful to get your foot in the door with the suppliers and it's decent money.

After gaining a couple of years experience in the game then maybe you'd be ready for the full monty gas quals.
