Afternoon all,

I need to move my Chimaera to a classic policy as my NCD is now being used against another car. So who comes recommended at the moment ?

Car has an agreed value of £22K, will do c3,000 miles per year and I'll need track day cover for when I fancy stretching it's legs a bit smile

Many thanks in advance

Hello Ian,

Recently insured mine (agreed value £20k) with ClassicLine Insurance -.£248.00. Policy covers 3000 miles/year plus the added bonus of Breakdown Cover . Mods listed as Uprated Front Brakes and Powers Performance MBE ECU. Zero NCD required.

There are cheaper companies out there, but it is down to personal choice.

Bill.

Mine is also with ClassicLine (01455 639000) and it is a turbo 4.6, many mods (upgraded brakes, suspension ECU, roll hoop, etc etc and the turbo) all accepted with no hesitation, plus I have 5 track days a year and unlimited mileage for just under £500 a year.

I'm with Footman James - they were by far the cheapest for me.

Chimaera 500 with mods to the induction, suspension, brakes, alloys, radiator...
Agreed value of £21k for 3k a year. You can add things like track day cover and breakdown if you want.

29 year old - £164. This includes a discount due to being in the TVRCC - a sizeable discount it is, too!

Was with Classicline who as a company seem very helpful. However they used Equity Red Star and reviews on Trustpilot and others might give you something to think about. All insurance companies are the same until you have a bump, then you find out just how good or bad your company is.
Had my little front bump last September and while there were complications with the other driver - so an accident management company would not deal with it as no admission of liability - I had to pay my £250 excess to ERS.
11 months later and still this is not resolved. You never get a call or update from ERS and when calling them you speak to someone different every time usually telling you a lot of nonsense. They are going through the courts to get the cost of the repairs and the excess from the other driver and his insurer.
During this claim I renewed with Classicline (£259) then 7 weeks later sold the car. Phoning them up to cancel I am told very abruptly that it has cost me £188 for 7 weeks insurance and it will take up to 60 days to refund me too so just £71 refunded.
Posted my opinion on Trustpilot - ticking the 'send copy to company' box - and an hour later a call to say the charge will be around £70 not £188.

I use RH Specialists, who whilst not quite as cheap as the others, have given me exactly what I want in terms of limited miles, agreed value, plus allowing me to use it for bus class 1 (e.g. if I want to visit a customer, and it's a sunny "TVR Day".

Most classic policies (technically, i dont think it is a classic policy, rather its a limited mileage policy with agreed value) would not cover the last part, but RH listened to what I needed, and found me policy that gave me that.

Not had a knock yet (and I think it is underwritten by ERS.. noting the previous comment on Classicline), but cannot fault RH.

Footman James has been the cheapest for me the last 2 years. £110 for 6k miles. Although breakdown has gone up this year, I think it was 90 for full European with the RAC. £60 to add trackday cover.

With most classic policies, there is no return of premium if you look in the small print, so I'm surprised you got any refund at all! Not that I'm supporting Classicline or Red Star, but they must have a refund policy that I've not seen with other companies. It's been my experience in the past having classic car insurance on and off for over 25 years with various companies and brokers. I've been able to transfer cover to another 'classic' car but not managed any return of premium at all. It's a factor to consider when I decide to sell.

I have been with Classicline in the past but am with Footman James for mine at the moment. Price got up 15% on last year but still a good price I think, £210. Others seem to have got it even cheaper but I'm not in a TVR owners club and have no garage (drive only). As mentioned previously, you have to add breakdown cover, legal cover etc as it isn't automatically included.

After posting the review, Classicline said that ERS would waive their cancellation charge. I actually spent some time reading ALL the small print when this started for both Classicline and ERS. Cannot remember the exact amounts now but to cancel the policy should have been a maximum total of £80 plus a pro rata amount for the time the policy was in place. In the end I was pleased but could have done without the hassle. wink

Bought a Chim last December and have it insured with FJ for a little over £200 with an agreed valuation so was really pleased with that especially as my NCD is taken up by two other vehicles.
Just tried to put the Tuscan on as it is up for renewal and have been quoted nearly £600 and although that is also with agreed valuation but with my 9 years NCD or £195 for 3 months to align it with the Chim's policy?
Insurance policies are a mystery to me

Many of the Footman James, Classicline, Peter D James, Carole Nash and Adrian Flux policies are underwritten by ERS.

RH is ERS direct.

Hi
Living nearby Paris I have a RHD griff 500, an elise S1 and a 1500 triumph spitfire insured by retroassurances (allianz i believe).
For unlimited mileage, personal health cover, house to office, all over europe and another mandatory vehicle for every day transit, I have a fleet package costing me around 500 pounds. Expertise ( value) requested via an expert imposed by the company for the griff (30k€).
Already had a bump ( someone broke rear part of my griff) and no issue with the broker.
However, breakdown coverage is limited to 200 km ie if i have a breakdown at 400 km from my place they will take the car up to 200km from this place which is helpful but unconvenient.
I read in this thread that you have in the uk full european coverage. Does that mean some brokers in england would take care of your broken down car anywhere in Europe and bring it back in the uk in an acceptable tvr garage?

Hi
What are the companies providing this "full european coverage"?
Which one is recommended?
