Injector advice please?
Discussion
Hi everyone.
I am hoping someone will be able to give me some advice regarding injectors please?
My car is a year 2000, 500, standard spec apart from an MC1 cam fitted by a previous owner around 5k miles ago. I have no idea on the current power output.
Whilst thinking about some minor modifications, i.e. plenum trumpets, induction kit etc., my thoughts turned to the injectors. I don’t think there will be any major mods in the future, a stealth cam maybe If a change becomes necessary and if I am brave enough I rather fancy a GEMS conversion.......
What recommendations are there for the injectors? Clean the Lucas ones, fit Vectra ones or Bosch? The Bosch flow rates confuse me a little, 215 cc seems to be the standard “upgrade” for the Rover engine but would a higher flow be beneficial at all on my car? The Vectra ones offer a higher flow rate at 250cc. There is a company in Spain which I think has supplied a few of you with reconditioned injectors at reasonable prices and they are the ones advertising the 215cc injectors.
If anyone can help that would be appreciated.
Regards Chris.

I think you’ll need a Dyno run or a flat out run somewhere with diagnostics checking your AFR readings at high revs to decide if your flow rate needs increasing.
I have speed six injectors fitted as they have a better spray pattern ( apparently) as part of my MBE install by Powers.
For all but flat out I’d have thought a better spray pattern will benifit you more than just a higher flow rate.

The standard Injectors you have currently will handle your current engine spec and if you want to be sure you could have a quick run on the dyno to make sure they are working as they should.
The induction modifications you mentioned will be ok using the standard injectors but you can always have another dyno run after to confirm this.
If you upgrade induction and the heads I would then look at higher rated injectors as the engine will likely be putting out 300+ hp
If you change the injectors or the heads you will need a dyno run and remap anyway.
Speak to Joolz at Kits and Classics who has a dyno, can reprogram your orginal 14cux computer and will give you good honest advice with the experience to back it up.

Thank you for the replies.
The Mark Adams post would be interesting if it can be found thank you.
The 215cc Bosch injectors are advertised as a direct replacement for the Lucas ones so I assume a re map wouldn’t be necessary?
The Lucas injectors I think are 185cc flow rated so the Bosch would be slightly more but I believe have a much better spray pattern.
Many thanks Chris.
