Cayenne Knocking low speed

Hi Guys

Looking for some thoughts to this, 5 yr old Cayenne S, at low speed and just as you start to accelerate the there is a juddering/knocking coming from what appears to be the center of the car, does not happen at higher speed, would I be right in assuming its likely to be a Prop bearing ? Any ideas on cost to fix if so ?

You might want to look at the oil in your transfer box.
If it's either low or knackered or both then the box will fail soon - v.expensive.

Hi sounds exactly like centre prop bearing rubber surround has split, if you can get underneath, you will be able to grab and see the rubber part torn most of the way around.

I would try Eurocarparts, as they can supply one from GKN,

I have a 16 plate which had this and its not an uncommon problem, which fortunately was fixed under warranty for me. Presuming it is the same thing, it is to do with a seal around the transfer box and isn't particularly troublesome expensive to repair / replace. And again, presuming so, its not about oil and that your gearbox is about to fail.

Hello.. I’m getting this same issue on my 2013 Cayenne S.. I’m reading that it could be the prop shaft support bearing or issues with the transfer case. Does anyone have a recommend for a London garage that can check it out? I’m in SW4 area, thanks

The transfer case is under a 10 year warranty. I just had mine replaced with no resistance on a 2013 car. I had the dealer drive it and they confirmed it needed changing and gave me a new Cayenne until it was repaired.


This was on the US but the warranty is the same in the UK.

Prop shaft bearing, not expensive. Fails typically around 80000 miles.

The quote from VW for the same on my toerag was pretty eye watering as they wanted to replace the prop.

Local indie took it off got an engineering place to replace the bearing all in for £450.
