Hi,
Last year I bought an approved used bmw e90 325i (n53).
It's a 2010 model and done 53,000 miles which isn't bad and got a full bmw service history. So far been a decent car.
Now my warranty that came with the car is up, do I get an extended one?
With 100 quid excess it is £523 for a full warranty or 466 for main component warranty.
Are fuel injectors covered under the full warranty? Is it worth me getting one with this cars age even though mileage isn't bad?

Thanks

orhan

I'd get the warranty for peace of mind, you can pay monthly if it suits you better.

Get the warranty. Put it on monthly payment now while it’s sub 60k miles and I think the price never goes up (check this -it might be 50k miles)

The fully comp warranty also includes a number of wear and tear items now too..

Pay monthly

It is not an annual policy and luckily as your below 60k it will be reasonably priced too.

The monthly policy will only increase very slightly.

If you keep the car and it goes over 60k next years policy will be far more expensive.

It also covers wear and tear upto 100k miles and will continue to cover you for the comprehensive warranty after 100k whereas the annual policy will not.

Thanks to all for the advice, I think I'll go with the full warranty on a monthly basis.
The car was bought for the wife and child and has cream leather and a brown trim so it's probably not been thrashed about unless the previous middle aged owners enjoyed a good hoon on a Sunday

Thanks all

At that price I'd get the warranty if it's the official bmw one you are referring to.

Downside is you have to deal with BMW grunts and I found them unbearable to deal with. As I'm handy with spanners I ditched the warranty and pay it into a bank account after I'd got new injectors from it. My warranty was approaching 1k per year though (5 series f10, n53 engine ).

As said do it monthly. My 640D is in under manufacturers warranty to have the egr cooler checked out at the moment easily an £800 bill.

However it just proves the fact as i have started my monthly one from the end of next month as it will be 3 years old then.

I have gone for a £250 excess, £73 a month with emergency assist. Which has been helpful this time round with the EGR

Equally at said you are just under the magic 60k. They can only increase a monthly cost once every 12 months as well.

As it stands as well under emergency assist you get a hire car for the time period the car is in. So i have been plonked in a virtually brand new G31 520D lacks poke but will do. Equally with bmw picking up most of the tab (50 quid is charged), it makes it look even better value.

Overall i love it not cheap, but then any bill on my 640 in real terms 250 quid dont go far these days.

I Vw had about £12k of repairs to my 640d, even lots of bushes as wear and tear is covered.

Thank god I opted for the warranty.

Worth it.

Had £600 of repairs done (just to replace some sensors it would seem!) last month for £100 excess. Hell it costs £140 just for them to investigate what a problem is!

I pay £55 a month.

And for an alternative view, we extended the warranty on my wife’s X1 2.0d x-drive for 3 years. Did not make one single claim-great car.

As it's not a particularly new car, you should be aware that claims are limited to £5k if you have the cheapest 'driveline' cover and the amount you paid for the car for the higher levels.

It's an all or nothing repair at the dealer. So, as an example, if you needed a new engine for £10k and you had driveline, you would need to pay the difference.

If you take the car outside the network to reduce costs, you forfeit the £5k claim.

Still worth it in my opinion.

As others have said Pay it monthly.
I started at sub 60k and now I'm up to 64k and it's still the same price (bar the annual price rise that everything seems to have).

I have it on my 335i and had a £4k bill last year covered for my excess +£100 (£200 all in)

Unable to decide whether to take extended warranty or not. 330i N53 engine. 50000 miles. Cold start idle isn't smooth. But no error codes and runs fine.
But isn't better to take monthly plan at £61. Planning to send car after few weeks to inspect. Hope inspection is covered in the warranty claim. What if it's dreadful injector failure coming up.

Are you extending an existing policy for another year ?

Or taking out a new policy after an old one has lapsed ?

New extended warranty. No policy existed for this car. 12 year old.

The ‘official’ extended BMW warranty, in the UK at least, like all other insurance is operated by a private company. As far as I know its not subsidized by BMW and is profit making. They know the statistics of how often your car breaks, what it costs to fix and what they would expect to pay out. There are admin costs and profit in the premium they charge you - of what 50% of the overall premium?

I don’t know, but I do know they were keen for me to renew which is always a bad sign. Statistically at least you will be financially better off without...….but its always a gamble.

Its like all insurance products, you don't need it until you need it.

I'd weigh up the cost of getting the issues you're having repaired vs the cost of the warranty (factoring in the general reliability of your car).

I have an early N54 and running one imo with a warranty is just asking for pain.
