In the lounge I have a Sony 4K TV which I occasionally use with my Xbox one X. (The rest of the time it’s plugged in updtairs to my racing wheel)

It’s not HDR 10 or anything but when I first got the Xbox one X it all worked fine, allowing me to play games in 4K.

Now though, 4K isn’t an option and the Xbox shows a message saying that the TV won’t support 4K. My BT box and the built in Amazon and Netflix apps all still support 4K content without issue.

Any thoughts about how to sort this out??

What has changed since it last worked? I know that for my PC to show 4K content I needed to change the HDMI cable to a 2.1, so if you've shuffled things around it might be worth checking if you've got a recent HDMI cable in case that's it.

The only thing that has changed since I last used it is that the Xbox has had a couple of updates. The cables I use are the ones supplied with the Xbox, I just unplug the whole lot and take it upstairs when I want to use the racing rig.

Weird, is the firmware all up to date on the TV?

Some TV's only allow 4K over specific HDMI ports.
Check the manual for which one on yours.

my Sony tv usually stops speaking to my PS4 whenever it gets a firmware update so I have to update the TV as well.

It wouldn't be such a big deal if my tv didn't also decide it didn't like my wifi anymore and had to be re-joined every time.
