Hopefully somebody can give me a pointer.

I'm in my mid 50's and 67 will be the age I can start claiming my state pension. Also have a work private pension which currently is due to 'payout' so to speak at when I am 65.

Had a letter from my private pension provider Standard Life as to whether my retirement age is still 65. At work we still have some folk still working past both 67, so assume I could probably still as things stand work for my employer past 65 or 67.

If I am with my current employer at 65, or another even and still working full time with a reasonable salary. Can I defer taking the private pension, so it is not treated as part of my income by HMRC? If not what are the options.

Yes, your pension - you decide when and how

Yes, you decide, although its worth reading a bit more.

They may be asking because, depending on what type of pension it is, they may move it into less risky assets in the runup to your specified retirement age, even 10 years before.
